How do you factor this one expression?

I'm really good at factoring I believe, but for the life of me, I can't figure this one out....
X^2-6x+9-4y^2
How do you do it? There is x and y terms... what do I do?...
(x^2-6x+9) - (4y^2)

Break down the first half of it

(x-3)^2 - (4y^2)

Break down second half of it

(x-3)^2 - (2y)^2

Difference of two squares

(x-3+2y)(x-3-2y)
I understand it all but the last bit.
How is there a difference of two squares? U broke down a 4y^2 to - (2y)^2.
How does that become a +2y and a -2y?
