Suggest a book to me

I need some books to read. I like something with action, adventure, fantasy, and a touch of romance. A good example is the Percy Jackson series. Pretty vague, I know, but I'm not really picky with what I read as long as it's good.
I'm a guy, if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.

If you like retellings, like of the myths from Percy Jackson, then try the The Looking Glass War series. It's basically Alice in Wonderland, only retold with more action/fighting/fantasy and a bit of time travel with a touch of romance.

The Sword of Truth series is by far the best I've ever read, just don't watch the show Legend of the Seeker, it ruins it. Its got everything from magic to torture, science and rebellion, its crazy! Wizards First Rule is the first book, DON'T LET IT FOOL YOU! its a slow start but the series is amazing. You will not regret it.

the Gargoyle is also a really interesting read, and The Road if you feel like crying

I recommend Green Eggs and Ham by Mister Dr.Seuss. He has a way with words that connect with people on an emotional level.

@oneredsockk: It's told in a very unique way.
It's hard to describe; you just have to try it
Might not appeal to you based on your specifications though.

@XiaoMuay sounds interesting, bookmarked. thanks
@SkullCandy1222 is there something about chess in that book? the cover looks really familiar
@BimmieMcGee The Road seems like it has some mixed reviews. if it isn't too much to ask, can you give a quick review of why you liked it? :o

Ooh. This one is for real. The Nicholas Flamel series. The first book is called the Alchemyst. Again, not really any romance though.

Its fast paced and has unexpected twists.

Also, the Golden Compass is amazing.

@Changes - That's an awesome list.

@Reasonable

lmao I had it for summer reading as well and live in NJ. I thought it was a teacher preference thing though o.o

But yeah, The Glass Castle was a good read. A touch depressing, but it had a hopeful and resilient undertone.
Sometimes you just had to put the book down though and just consider what the author's experiences must have been like.

Doesn't really fit your description, but a good read nonetheless

Edit: You might try The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It's a story of a father and son as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic society.
Maybe not so action-y, but a really good read.

@cxggod the chyralids by john wyndham and christopher priest? is it anti-religious, 'cause the description makes it sound that way. the temeraire series sounds awesome, bookmarked

@Zora I read the first book a while back, but i never really got into it :S does it get better later in the series?
@Amyrlin isn't self-reliance an essay? I'm really just looking for something with a plot. thanks for the suggestion though
@siuttybears the cover for city of bones always kept me from reading it haha. And divergent sounds suspiciously like the hunger games.
@eyedrop well, then i guess i'll read it thanks!
@mariosworld is world war z scary? im pretty tolerant with different genres, but i can't stand horror >.<
@cutiepiexoxo i hear the twilight series gets really bad later on. is this true?

@Cutiepiexoxo - I've never read it, but don't people always ridicule the romance in Twilight?

@oneredsockk: Well, some people say that Tara Duncan series is almost like Harry Potter series' little sister; even the author herself mentioned that she had to change the whole concept because J.K.Rowling published her book first (I think, lol), so yes, it is similar to Harry Potter, but different in many ways.
I personally loved this book more than the Harry Potter series

Plenty of action, a few drunk people. Not much romance, I don't seem to recall many female characters.

I personally hated the book, but hey, someone must have liked it since it won a Newberry Medal... 88 years ago.
