@oneredsockk: We can make it front page again! Steam stats are irrelevant just as any other stats will be. Most traffic is by people who log on and are inactive while in game. You'll probably have to focus on peaks.

@SunsetChaos I'm specifically looking at Maplestory in the U.S, so I think the creation of Maplestory2 would be more tailored to Korean players

Maplestory is weird. Its a game that a lot of people have heard of, yet very few people play it relative to those that choose to play a different game (regardless of what the other MMO is).

@Memberz0nly I'm basically looking at free to play MMOs since it's probably the most accessible genre for youths, sorry for the lack of details. I plan to elaborate on my popularity=population assumption in my research, so I just gave a broad definition for the sake of clarity in this thread. As for now, I can handle research on other games, so any info/sources on Maplestory specifically will be of great help!
@Scottzay I'm probably going to stick with Maplestory as a whole, it'll be too tedious to work out servers due to there being new ones/mergers every so often

It's retired now so I don't know how you'll be able to measure current population. I'd assume it's pretty low due to the season/time period. (usually peaks during Summer/Winter holidays)

Your operational definition has a flaw...By population wise, are you comparing it to a base game? In relation to games like CoD or WoW it would be relatively small. However, in relation to games like S4 league it's above average. Also, by games are you including FPS, MMORGS, browser games like AQ worlds? Give me some parameters and i can aid you a bit further.

Try using Google trends to look up search traffic of Maplestory and other games. It's a pretty rough list but I'd give it a go.
