Environmentalists annoy me

For some reason, every time someone talks about how messed up the environment is, or what we're doing to it, I just feel like throwing a cat at their face. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for protecting tue earth, but does complaining really solve anything?

@Gratitude: Like I acknowledged in my other post, they are concerns. I never said they weren't. However, instead of putting pressure on the people and stuffing their nose in other people's business, those really concerned by the environments should target much worse problems, and those come from corporations, not from the plastic wrapper I just threw on the ground.

That being said, I do recycle and take care not to litter. I'm just saying they're near the bottom of the priority list.

On another note, I still fail to see how conserving electricity will do anything else than make me save money on my hydro bill every month.

Depends on what you think justifies as complaining.

I'm taking an AP Environmental Class right now ): No harm or foul in trying to be positive in trying to help the environment yo. Even if in a little way.
Some of these people complaining are actually doing stuff right now too, &we can make a really good change.

Example 1: Chinampas System: Back in the olden days it was the Aztecs who used this, where there were flowerbeds/garden plots 2 - 4 meters wide and 20 - 40 meters long, that not only provided beans, chilies, flowers, and squash as crops, but also helped to prevent soil erosion, attract many animals and plants, and even helped with construction and wood to be used as fire, since willow trees were planted along the sides. Bring it back to today, that technique was modified with the Mayan Forest Gardening Technique, in which you use aquatic plants as fertilizer, which not only helped produce crops efficiently, and provided jobs to many Mexicans, but also helped become a major producer and supplier to Mexicans demands for Vegetables.

Example 2: Couple of years ago, the Chesapeake Bay was practically polluted due to mindless littering and loitering, therefore causing the aquatic plants and animals to decrease in population, and tourism practically going down. However, with a lot of positiveness/hope, many people as a team volunteered to look after the bay, monitor it, clean it up, and basically in turn, not only helped to regain the lost population of aquatic animals/plants, even helped to provide jobs as well.

What i'm trying to say is, if we try to do something, even at a much smaller scale, not only will it benefit the environment, but it will also provide many jobs, help save lives, give important lessons in the future. I want to become the generation to provide a safer &cleaner world for the next generation. I don't want to become the generation to be blamed for what ignorant things we've done. We just need to set an example for others.
Why a cat? Out of all the things you could throw, why a cat?

Anyways, people just try to help out with the environment in various ways. Some people go overboard and start ranting constantly to others and not do a thing to help out themselves, which I agree gets annoying. I guess it just depends on the person.
Would you rather I threw a reflapitator? And have you ever been attacked by a cat? It's not very fun.
depends if they're all words or they actually take action. If they complain and then do something about it, im all for it. But if i asked them what they're going to do about it and they can't respond, then they're just wasting everyones time.
I asked her what she was going to do, and she said that she was "spreading awareness"
Speaking of scams. Made me remember all the self-righteous "Kony 2012" supporters from a few months back; whenever someone brought up Kony in class, I would just tune out. Although many cyclical debates were to be had.
I basically turned it into a joke, because nobody could find Uganda on a map.
Depends on where you draw the line between "complaining" and "spreading awareness", I suppose. To be honest I find myself deliberately playing a rather mean devil's advocate when someone starts some righteous rant on the environment. X_X
It also doesn't help that she screams out "oh my god, that's terrible" every time our history teacher talks about things like microchips being implanted in people. Don't ask.

Who says I'm trying live in ignorance? Besides, every time someone at my school goes off about the environment, they're either attention ]%]%s or hippies
@above every bit counts? So you're telling me that by throwing water bottles in recycling bins will counteract the damage that things that actually cause pollution make?

I can practically taste the elitism.
The problems with the environment come not from what Joe McEverybody does, it comes from factories, wars and the abuse of resources. Really, does recycling water bottles fix the hole in the ozone layer or make trees grow in the amazon? Will it clean the rivers polluted by industrial waste?

Saving electricity and recycling are the least of any environmental concerns we should be having.

EDIT: On the flip side, I will say I'm all for public transport and maybe bikes as an alternative to cars.

The funny thing is, the person I'm talking about has an iPhone, a MacBook, and hates poor people.
