Canada plastic bills and no more pennies

I know other countries have plastic bills but what do you think about Canada no longer going to have pennies?

The reason pennies are no longer being minted is because it was simply not profitable for the royal canadian mint to keep doing so. The plastic bills are really awesome too. BTW I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

About damn time they got ride of their pennies, if only their southern neighbor North America would follow their lead. Right now it takes 2.2 Cents to manufacture one penny.

well I found it harder compared to paper money. the plastic money just slide between my fingers so I can't really feel each sheet so it is a lot slower. maybe there's a trick to it or I have to change my way of counting.

And yes, they do fold easily. Putting them in a wallet and having the wallet fold folds the money so easily...that it's actually near impossible to flatten it out entirely.

I'm assuming Canadians will keep all their other coins excluding pennies.

Then again, I don't know if the plastic bills fold or how big they are or anything.
Are you not a mod anymore?
OT: I'm quite happy that we don't have pennies. They were a huge time waster and I never liked when people made me wait because they wanted to give exact change.

@KilIerCombo: being ripped off is when you overpay for a product or service. Paying $2.50 for a sandwich is not being ripped off. Paying up to $5 for a sandwich is a reasonable price. You do not make money off of people's misfortune when your rip them off. Being ripped off would mean paying $10 for a spicy chicken sandwich. What school does not offer you a drink/salad/others with your meal?
A scam is when you try to defraud or swindle somebody. They are two very different things.
Also, i don't see you giving any facts. So don't ask me something you are not doing yourself.

So wait, if we still have some Canadian pennies at home (Mines is shiny ), is it still usable? And plastic bills are cool, but they feel weird since now you're trading with plastic.. o.o

Stupid IMO.
They could've changed the alloy composition of the penny if it really was getting too expensive to produce.

Kinda annoyed that the prices on everything are going up again, (especially gas).
If america is in more debt than canada, you cant really say anything, look at your own country before you start to diss ours.
I don't really view his statement as a diss... I think you're just a bit sensitive. Oh well.

OT: I know it's a waste of money to even make pennies but I like that feeling when I scrounge through my wallet and come up with exact change with whatever coins I have and that usually involves a couple of pennies.

@KilIerCombo: There is a difference between ripping someone off and scamming. Schools are no ripping you off, the amount they charge you is perfectly fine for the amount of food they give you. Also businesses have the value items for more then they are or else they do not make a profit. Knowing that something you buy from a company is not the exact price the company bought it for is not a scam.
60 cents may not seem like a whole lot, but when multiple people are doing it everyday, it adds up to be quite a bit.

Costs more to make a penny then the penny is actually worth, thats it.

Those new plastic bills tend to stick together. You must be careful that they are not stuck together when paying for something!
really O_O; oh snap, gotta watch out. but srsly, why'd they create a new bill and not think of it being stuck together

OT: kinda glad, pennies are the most disgusting/moldiest coin out there.
does anyone know if we can exchange all our pennies worth? Last time I checked I had $1.1X worth.. I'm not losing that! I can go to the dollar store with that D: Cheap Asian ftw

@KilIerCombo: scamming for any amount is just sad. What is the purpose of scamming someone any amount of money?
Also it's the internet, you should know that jokes arn't as easy to get as if they were told in rl.
That sucks, the reason pennies are good is simple. You give the lunch lady at school a jar of pennies and say its $2.00 she's not about to count them when shes got a line of people to take care of. Scammed son.
that just pathetic.

@LightingFrag: I feel like they will just round to the nearest. The manager of the convenience store I just went to asked for $5 when the actual total was $5.02.

Pennies are so worthless, I'm glad we're getting rid of them. If I see a penny on the ground, it's not worth the effort of picking up.

@SkyForest Dem Canadians
I don't see why it matters if we use Pennies or not, an why the Canadians care in general.
I know that we spend more to make a penny than it's actually worth, and if we stopped using it I wouldn't care, but is it really that big of a deal?

wait what? no more pennies? but what about finding those lucky pennies on the ground and being able to demand ur exact change?

I'm an American and I believe the use of pennies is stupid and pointless.

Most people aren't aware that the US loses 1.41 cents in creating a penny.

That adds up to a lot.
@MeiGuiHua: Seems like a pretty harmless question to me.
That is, of course, unless you can't answer it.
I've been to US many times. Stayed in New York for 2 weeks in total. Stayed in Rhode Island for 1 month. Stayed In Florida for 2 weeks. Stayed in Hawaii for 1+ week and In Minnesota for around 2-3months

Just use rounding. 0.01~0.04 Round down. 0.05~0.09 round up.

And the ones digit will only be 0 or 5
