So I reset the WiFi router

which means the old Wepkey and name of WiFi are gone. I was following instructions to set them using something from Control Panel. I made up a name and wepkey, but our WiFi still isn't protected. My brother's iPod touch can use our WiFi just fine and now I know it's very vulnerable to evil leeching neighbors. What to do?

Dear Arceus Cisco doesn't even show a picture of all their routers at once. Gotta click one at a time. >:

Edit: Nvm found out the model and yay, found the setup page.

i wouldn't recommend using wep - it can be easily cracked regardless of the password
ideally, you'd use wpa2 with aes encryption (and a strong password)

also, might be a good idea to set a (not-so-obvious) password to your router as well

You need to set up the WiFi info in BOTH the computer setups (which you reached from Windows Control panel), AND in the router's internal setups.

Open your web browser and type the IP address of your router into the address bar, then log into the router's setup pages.
(The IP address is NOT necessarily what WeaselPopPills posted above, it depends on what brand your router is.)

If you don't know your router's default IP address and password/login, the easiest way to find out is to Google the name of your router's manufacturer and model number, as in "Linksys WRT54G IP address" and "Linksys WRT54G default password" to get that info.

Go to the Wireless page in the router setups and set what type of encryption you want (WEP, WPA2, etc) and enter the password there.
Also give the router a name (in the SIP setting). Then SAVE the change in the router.

Then go to the Windows Control panel setup on the computer(s) and enter the same info there.

@WeaselPopPills Basilmarket blocks IP addresses to prevent people from posting malicious links.

go to the default router IP address (which is for some reetarded reason blocked by basilmarket), by typing it in your address bar: 192 dot 168 dot 0 dot 1

default login info should be on the side of your router
enable WPA or whatever

You should get the a password on the wifi right away. If you have like wireless printer or any wireless device that connected to the wifi, they can get information.

Ring up your internet company and ask them to put a password on.
