At what point is too much %magic att/ %att worse then %total
I hear that %magic att/ %att is better then %total, but does it ever get to a point when you get too much %magic att, and it would be more beneficial to get %total? Or is %magic att/att always better?

there's never a case where you'd want %Total. you'd always take %Boss over %Total. thus is becomes a question of when is too much %Boss.
unless ofc you really don't want %Boss Neb and debating between %Matk and %Total, but generally since you should have a lot more %Boss than %Matk, %Matk wins (though I'd personally go for %Ignore in this case)
@Revolutionist: Whoa - that's awesome! I stand corrected.

ADA has always been % Attack/Magic Attack, not Total Damage. It stacked additively with Echo when the Attack/Magic Attack stat still showed in the previous stat window UI (from gMS 1.37 to 1.48).

Anecdata: I recubed a wand from 21% TD/15% m.atk to 36% m.atk, and did much more damage with the latter.

usually the question is asked regarding when is it too much boss% lul.
so it'd be better to ditch total damage and look for lines of Matt% or boss% accordingly to your needs.
Depends on the class but generally it's safe to assume %Matt/Att is better than %TD (Wild Hunters have a lot of ATT% from their skills, so they'd rather have %TD or %Boss).
Ideally you'd want to juggle between %Matt/Att and %Boss (and possibly Ignore Defense%) when selecting equipment potential/stats.
Unless you have more %m.att than %TD + %boss (which is basically never), then %m.att will always be better
