Any Londoners around? Hey guys, so I'm currently studying abroad at UCL (University College London), until June, and I was just wondering if there's anyone from London on BM? I need some good places to visit with friends. We'll be traveling around Europe during the big Easter break in April, but we need more local areas to visit. We've already been to most of the big bars, pubs and clubs around central London. We've also visited the big touristy areas like Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Tate Modern/Britain, National Gallery, British Museum, etc... We're planning on weekend trips to places like Brighton, Batch, Stonehenge, Oxford, Cambridge, Scotland, Paris, etc... If anyone has any neat locations for us to visit, I'd appreciate it v

So, whats there to do in Japan? I'll be traveling across Asia this summer, and one of my destinations is Tokyo, Japan. I've never been before, so I don't quite know what to expect. I want to do all the touristy stuff, but I don't know any famous landmarks. Have any of you ever been to Tokyo and know where I should go visit? I'll be there from July 2nd-9th, staying at a friend's place near Shinjuku. Thing is, my friends aren't done with school yet, so I'll be doing the sightseeing on my own during the day. Then they'll show me around at night and take me out clubbing and whatnot.

Share some confessions here Soooooooo I have a confession to share. I'm pretty superficial, and I'm really into my image, whether physically or from a social standpoint. I buy a bunch of brand name items that I don't actually need, namely Apple products, designer clothing/accessories, nice watches, DSLR cameras, etc..., just to give off a wealthy/classy vibe. I really enjoy being in the center of attention, and I've got a pretty big ego. I like to show off a lot (though in subtle ways without being too annoying), and I am pretty judgmental when it comes to meeting new people. So what about you guys?

Boston Massachusetts residents Meet up Hey guys, so after creeping around the forums for a bit, I've found that there are quite a few Basilers from Boston around. I think it'd be cool if we could all meet up at some point and just hang out and talk. Now I know that most of us are busy with summer school, internships, jobs, etc.. so a weekday meetup probably isn't very plausible. However, we can try meeting up Friday night or Saturday/Sunday morning/afternoons. This will be a casual rendezvous aimed at meeting new people and making new friends. We can do dinner/lunch somewhere, or get froyo/ice cream/coffee. @ So here's the plan. For those of you who are able, we'll be meeting at Harvard Square on July 31st, Sunday at 1pm. We can meet right

Why are you a loser? I'll tell you, because you guys are pessimistic cynics who see the worst of this world. You guys aren't the "nice guys/gals" that you claim to be. Because honestly, as long as you're a friendly individual, then there's no reason for people to dislike you. Most of the popular kids I know may have their dbag tendencies, but for the most part, they're still nice people. No one wants to be around depressed people who whine about our horrific society all the time. Being popular is all about mentality. If you think you're a likable person who is full of self-confidence, you will eventually adopt that mentality and truly become confident and popular. What's the point in painting the world in such a negative light whe

My top 10 favorite movies. 10.) 500 Days of Summer/Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: The fact that I can say I’ve been in the main actor’s (Joseph Gordan-Levitt/Jim Carrey) shoes multiple times should indicate the realism of these two films. They treat relationships not as a happy-ending, but as what it really is, a bumpy road that can end in heartbreak. Normally, the ending of 500DOS would bump it out of my top 10 list, but Zooey Deschanel is just too damn cute. 9.) Pixar films/Hayao Miyazaki films: Start off with a pinch of beautiful animation, add in a dash of unique story-telling, throw some heartwarming plot on top, and finally, stir it all up with relevant contemporary issues, and you have the recipe for a great movie. 8.) It gets better Umm no.. actually, it doesn't. You know what annoys me? All of those "it gets better" videos on the internet. The ones with this kid crying about how horrible his/her life is, and then ending it with the message that "it gets better". Then you get a bunch of celebrities doing the same thing, saying "LOL EVEN THO I MAKE A BAZILLION DOLLARS EVERY HOUR, I WILL PRETEND TO UNDERSTAND THEIR PAIN AND PROMOTE THIS MESSAGE IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET BETTER PUBLICITY". Let's wake up, and face reality. It doesn't get better. All that's doing is promoting a culture of complacency. You accomplish nothing by cowering behind the thoughts that someday, you will wake up, and the world will magically become a happier pl

Girls and their tendencies So recently, I've been "with" a girl, so to speak. We're really 'friends with benefits' more than anything else. Tonight, we were supposed to go on our Friday dinner dates, but I invited another couple to join us, AKA a double date. My date got really pissed at me, and gave me the silent treatment the whole night. Obviously, like any normal, rational guy, I asked her what was wrong. She responded with "you should know what's wrong" and continued to act cold towards me all night. This pissed me off really badly. I understand that she wanted to spend time with me, but we hang out EVERY. FREAKING. WEEKEND. Our semester is ending in a week or so, and I wanted to capitalize the time I had with my su

What's the point? So I keep seeing people’s facebook statuses being related to the death of Osama and how America has finally “won”. But people fail to see it from another perspective: Osama was the one who truly won. Not because he killed 5000 Americans, but because he caused 10 years of war and trillions of dollars of debt. He showed the world how to take down a superpower: poke it with a needle and watch it implode. Osama’s death is a symbol, like many say, but I'm curious as to why anyone should care. Is it that he must atone for the lives he took? It’s true that we must show other nations that we want our country to be safe, but such is a desire shared by all nations. In this scenario, a terrorist group operating without the

Need a good farewell song/advice on slideshow. So this coming Saturday, all of my friends and I are having a wine, bread and cheese picnic at Hyde Park for one last hurrah before everyone leaves for home. These are people who I've spent the last 6 months with, and I've grown extremely close to them. It's going to be a sad event, when people start leaving one by one to go back to the States. I decided to make a picture slideshow to document our memories, and I need some advice on music. Currently, my slideshow is formatted as so: It starts off with individual picture introductions of everyone (5 pictures per person), while the song Slide Show by T.I. plays in the background. Then as it nears to the end, the song is followed up by Friday. Thi

To everyone on Basil Matthew looked across the barren landscape. He looked at the trees in the distant, the clouds far above. He looked at the sun hanging slightly over the horizon. He looked in his hands, and he sees a frozen clock. Time had stopped for two days. Matt was feeling better from his agonizing breakup with Sarah, the woman who once encompassed his hopes and dreams. He reached out for his clock, a little timepiece hanging from a gold chain, and decided to turn the wheels of time. He wanted to remember what was life like long before Sarah. So he turned his clock ten years to the past. Matt is now in college and looking at himself as a college student. Matt stood invisible in the memory of his life for he could only exist in a sin

Did I do the right thing? Ok so, as most of you know, Mother's day is coming up soon. Since I'm so busy with Finals and college, I celebrated with my mom tonight, and had dinner tonight. After dinner, she offered to buy me food at a supermarket, and being a broke college student, I happily agreed. We went to a Stop & Shop in Boston, and since we went pretty late (8 pm-ish), people were quite anxious to get their groceries. As we were waiting in line, some drunk white kids waited behind us. They started getting inpatient with waiting, and told us to hurry up, even though we couldn't do anything about the long line. Suddenly, I heard one kid say "these chlnks are ruining our country" and I got more pissed than I've ever been. If
