Tips to kill Griffey for 4th job advancement

Hey guys. Pretty sad story to tell you. So I finally reached 120 today (yay.), and now I've received the task of defeating Manon and Griffey to get my job advancement. Manon I gotta say was easy, but Griffey...
HE'S A 100% HACKER.
I can deal with his magic attacks and such, and the mobs that are spawned with him are plausible too, but so far I've tried 12 times to defeat him. And that stun + HP/Mana drained to 1 attack kills me instantly. Not to mention he always pulls a quickie on me and cancels out my Magic Guard making me a one hit KO...

I was just wondering did anyone else have a hard time doing this, or am I just that terrible of a person? Also I would like to know if there are any tips/potions I could use to counteract this combo of his.
Much obliged~
@robertico55 In Manon and Griffey forest. If you keep CCing you'll find one on a channel since their spawn is high so there really isn't a time

And for everyone boasting of course it's easy to beat them but not as a mage. Debuffing MG is what makes it hard for us. OT just bring someone along to help you do it and I wish you luck and hope you saved Forest of the Priest on your Hyper Tele Rock
Manon and Griffey automatically spawn when you enter the map while doing the 4th job advancement and the thing is..you can't bring someone else to do it with you post ascension you have to solo and no more 10m secret spell scroll

@PurpleMatter
On my bishop, I just tanked him while attacking with mg on. If you get 1/1ed, use MG and a power elixer.
(Tip: MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING 1 POT FOR BOTH HP AND MP!)

You can't just use a HP then a MP, because with no mp you will get 1hit, you can't use a mp before hp because you will get 1hit.

im sure mages would have more than enough hp nowadays to tank one hit seeing how they nerfed the damages of everything in post-bb

maybe im biased cuz im one of many that used to train at monsters that used to 2hko me lul

in other words, learn to pot

They should definitely make Magic Guard a skill that can be toggled on or off man.
This is even more annoying and much worse when you're doing the Kenta PQ against Pianus >.<

Did you advance already? Anyways my 120 priest just advanced. Soo what I did was right when i get into the griffey map use Holy Magic Shell. The shell makes you invincible for 20 seconds. Once you use the shell thing, keep attacking until it runs out. Once the shell ran out i would keep teleporting everywhere till the cooldown wore off. Then use the Holy Magic Shell again and attack till it ran out again. It may take longer this way but it took me 2 tries for griffey and 2 tries for manon. Before when i didnt do this i probably tried killing them 12ish times.

Big Foot was OHKO back in the days (along with Royal Guard Type S and Castellan Toad). You can spam pots all you want, but if you get hit once you die.

I just did it on my priest yesterday, it took me ~6 tries...
But I took around 400 ginger ales with me and spammed them while attacking and hugging Griffey.
Watch mg and tele to the opposite side of griffey when you notice it's about to 1/1 or dispel you. When he starts glowing blue or yellow,
spam your pot like crazy. When he dispels u, spam pots like crazy while reseting your mg. Don't try to save your pots, just use them or you'll die.

I had the same problem. So don't feel bad. Without Magic Guard, mages are helpless.

Anyways. I found that it helped if you try to corner him, so that you can just spamhit him. Use slow. Spam your pots. Even when they are not needed. Spam your buffs, even when they are not needed. Have the hotkeys set up close to each other so you don't have to make too much effort to reach them, and just spam away. Use slow on the Kentaurs, too. Keep your eyes fixed on the top corner so you can see when he dispels you, all while you watch the battle with the corner of your eye (or vice versa if that works better for you). The moment he does a 1/1 on you, you have a few seconds of invicibility to spam your HP and MP pots.

Your keyboard will be abused. But you will feel SO good once the battle is over. Trust me =D Good luck!

Wow, don't know what brought this thread back up from the dead again.
But thank you though for all your help everyone. I do appreciate all your strategies and semi-kind words~
But as some of you don't know, I/L aren't of those new fancy-shmancy classes that can kill anyone in one hit and jump across the whole map in a split second. Mages are pretty much a slow gameplay style that takes awhile to figure out with its buffs and such. And because I'm not one to go all "OMG I HAVE LOW DMG I QUIT NOW", me having low dmg actually makes it more of a challenge to me and overall makes it a better experience to me. Not to you people who care about every single point of Attack makes a difference. But that's just my two-cents.
Right now just stocking up on power elixirs and waiting for me to mass-spam them all at once. Thank you again for your words basil and how I wasn't the only one having trouble here~

I was a Priest (Bishop now) and I totally feel your pain. It took me several tries, but honestly, anything you can possibly do has probably already been said;
Magic Guard is the ONLY buff you NEED, disregard all others, and take a TON of Elixirs/Power Elixirs/Ginger Ales and be liberal with them!
If I can kill Manon/Griffey so can you!
Good luck.

Slow and Teleport mastery will help a LOT!

You're not weak and you don't need funding, just keep trying, perhaps you have bad luck b/c he/she/it only stunned me twice and did its 1/1 HP/MP thing once o_O

What's with everyone thinking this is difficult? Teleport into them, using your main attack, and drive him to a corner. Then, stay on him until he's dead.
Cancel buffs a problem? Not if you're being hit constantly by his touch damage.
1/1 a problem? Not if you're being hit constantly by his touch damage.
Stun a problem? Not if you're being hit constantly by his touch damage.
Seriously, I've done it with both bishop and f/p mage and I never got cancelled, 1/1'd, or stunned a single time. Same deal works with several bosses. For example, Zakum can't 1/1 you if you're constantly being hit by his touch damage. Seeing as to how most of the time, Zakum 1/1s you anyways, it's better to just take his touch damage. Well, for mages at least.

Have you tried doing it on a mage..? Doubt it.

It's 100x harder doing it with mages, especially priests.

Take advantage of frostbite from ice demon. The damage adds up. And when you first get in there slow griffey. Try to get power/elixers/guild pots, or anything else that heals the majority of both, like ginger ales. You could hug him like others suggested, or you can go long range. If you decide to go long range, teleport in, attack, and teleport out of range.

Go stock up on potions from Ani's raid and the like.
You can try getting HB before you go in.
Or perhaps an HB potion. HP Equips, maybe?
I don't think I ever had any trouble tanking a hit on my priest, even with MG canceled + stunned.
Be sure to always have 100% HP.

I did it yesterday on a heavily unfunded priest (like 3.5k range) after multiple tries. You're never 1/1'd and lose your magic guard in the same hit... It takes a long time if you're not funded, so don't get distracted :I

buy power elixiers like 200 , when you stunned use it each time you get 1 hit and dont afraid to use them while fighting him i made it with my night lord its wasnt easy i know , best to do is to be on him than he cant take all your hp/mp down with his skill

not anymore, its now a solo map, u cant bring party members and u cant buy a secret spell scroll, u can only hope you can kill it lol
u gotta bring heaps of power elixers for a decent chance
i wasted around 45 each boss
my chars are unfunded so yea
DoT works fine

Nope, it's like killing the clone for 3rd job. You have to do it alone and prove that you're worthy of being a 4th jobber.

Buy like 200-300 of those Ginsing potions (75% recovery). Mages are very weak to the disable+attack or 1/1+attack, and you bascially have to spam potions:

But a question, It seems in the new patch they moved the 4th job NPC location and i was wondering if anyone knows where it is

I had to do this on my unfunded hs mule, it was terrible. Go to NLC and buy ginger ales, they heal 75% of both hp and mp. Tips: Hug his body and try to hit the Kent's and not Manon/Grifffey, if he debuffs pot, then magic guard right away, and use teleport mastery, and teleport back and forth the whole time. What I did was teleport through manon/griffy then used my attack, teleport back the other way and attacked and so on so forth.

@useedoom Sorry to tell you but mages have it the worse, when you get debuffed he can kill you in one hit, so shut up and stop trolling .

lol you think you had it hard? i did it on a BISHOP
i had a magic door right outside his map lol, kept dying
killed him after about 30 tries
fire/poison was much easier, just had to spam poison mist everywhere and tele mastery + explosion/fire arrow
you got it easy

Power elixirs and elixirs should help you. As other people say, only use magic guard to save yourself. Doing the ani runs daily will give you power elixirs or elixirs by a chance (got about 30 to 70 from one of the boxes). Also, if you need to fund yourself, try and go on a mule and sell a GFA 60% scroll for more mesos. Using the NLC potions is a good one too.

I did it on my Priest. It just takes good timing. If you can't watch your MG and repot now, don't bother bossing later.

i've never had a problem killing griffey/manon.... i had absolutely NO PROBLEM on my [now bishop] priest, AND my blaze wizard. if you cannot kill a simple boss like griffey or manon, you dont deserve to advance to 4th job, the game isn't supposed to be incredibly easy.

Hell, I'm doing the Advancement Quest as a DW for the Captain Knight junk and I can't even FIND Manon, much less attempt to kill him. I even got on immediately after the patch when nobody was on and it wasn't there. I think that Griffey and Manon need Master Monster Portals like most of the other bosses, this is just ridiculous.
I don't know how anyone has trouble killing griffy or manon.
Manon and Griffrey are difficult for mages, especially Priests. In the past, we would have paid 10 mil to Tatamo to skip this part or partied with an attacker (like a high level Hero) to kill them for us. Now that the job advancement has changed, neither one of those options exist.

First, get a lot of pots. Power Elixers are your first choice. Anything less is second best. Second, when killing Manon and Griffey concentrate on MG and pots before your worry about attacking. Third, attack when you can and take your time. Neither one heals so every hit counts. Eventually, both will die and you'll never have to face them again.
The answer to that is easy.
They spend a lot for damage and hope they can kill whatever they're trying to kill before they die themselves by holding down the attack button.

Damage has taken over this game enough so that you can forget anything about fighting tactics. With high damage, you get considered "pro".

When Big Bang came and Big Foot was no longer a threat (or any other monsters for that matter since every monster got their damage reduced), many Maplers seem to have forgotten how to fight.

Which is quite sad but funny to see someone with the funds to deal the same amount of damage that you would in 1 minute in just a few seconds but didn't get a chance to because they died.
I don't think anything but Bigfoot was ever really a threat in Maplestory. You could spam pots in just about every fight. Many maplers do not know how to fight at all, Maplestory isn't a difficult game.
