Dark, because I've always wanted a dark mage and this is as close as I'll get. (I know bams are supposedly dark mage, but I'm talkin' like being a "caster mage", not beating people up with a staff)
Actually, you get to use both sides, or what I heard. Look at some vids, theres people using all skills and going into equilibrum. I'm pretty sure you CAN choose both sides, and use all their skills. Certain skills are only for equilibrum mode. I'm such a nerd
Remember that the differences when choosing light and dark is
- Different storyline in the beginning (do you wish to save the girl or killed her and destroyed the house) - Do you want +5% damage for light or dark skills
Regardless you will have both dark and light skills available from 2nd job
I've heard that Dark skills are in general stronger, so I'm going Light simply to balance things out (esp since I'm not really funded). Also for storyline purposes, I think I'd like the Light side more.

dark has stronger 1st job skill,
but light boosts your slightly weaker light attacking skills to level the dark/light attacking balance
Light, for the questline
light you can't see in the dark

I'm probably going for light, because of the storyline. Though I'm not sure yet. I might just make both for the hell of it.
I like the light skills better than the dark skills, so light. I want the 5% extra damage on light skills.
