Should laws exist about what can be done over the internet?

Why or why not?

Only when it is connected to the real world (ex: stealing credit card info, writing some seriously disturbing blog that promote terrorism or practicing sex with undraged kids). The internet only became what it is today because its free, but if someone connect their reality to this world, they deserve whats coming.

I feel like if something were made illegal, it would still happen anyway, rendering it relatively useless to even make it illegal

Don't think so. It's perfectly okay to upload videos of brutal murders and let people get away with trying to obtain credit card numbers of other people through deceitful methods.
