I have been getting this problem for a long time now, I've researched for a few weeks, tried everything but nothing seems to work on windows vista.
I have tried all of the following:
Redownload, disarmed fire walls, redownloaded HS, fixed registry errors, ran anti virus, allowed compatability, reset IP stack, ran as administrator, used both game launcher and website.
So basil, is there a fix that I haven't tried?

Looks like you haven't yet reinstalled OS
Whenever that happened to me, re downloading the game usually did the trick, so I don't know
