Nurses of Basilmarket

Hey there people! I'm going to take my second choice of major, which is nursing, and would like to know, if you're a nurse or in training, how is it? Do you like it so far? Do you have a lot of benefits on being a nurse? Computer science major was my first choice, but my brother is already majoring that and I would like to major something different plus i have to complete a lot of math classes to be a comp sci major.. If you're a nurse informatics major, would you kindly tell me what it's about?

I'm not a nurse, but I voted "I wish I could've majored something else." Because nursing is hard as hell and way too many girls at my high school think they wanna become a nurse or doctor "because it pays a lot". I kinda dislike living in a rich area.

My mom's a RN and I'm currently in medical school so i work with a lot of nurses. They really love what they do for the most part.

My mom's an RN and she was a floor nurse for like 20+ years.
She liked it when she was young but when she got older and had kids she couldn't handle it anymore. It's extremely strenuous and demanding.
Then a few years ago she became a nurse at a doctor's office and loves it. None of the craziness of the hospital.

I'm not in nursing (I'm in medical school...Georgetown med ) so I can't really give you specifics. However, I have worked with people in nursing informatics, and many of them don't seem to like their jobs. Nurses in general, on the other hand, tend to the love the patient interaction aspect. We can't really decide for you, but if you think you'll like the career, go for it! Also, it doesn't matter if your brother is majoring in computer science (so many different fields of computer science).

My sister worked as an LPN/RPN for a couple of years... long hours and a lot of stress. She's now studying health care administration. Nursing I feel, you really need to have a passion for it to go longterm. As for nurse informatics major... not really sure what that is (and cannot be bothered to google).

If your first choice was comp. sci., I don't see why you brother's choice of being in comp. sci. should stop you from pursuing it. Anywho, good luck on your future endeavors!
