@Fusionpressure: You got proof? No.
IceFrog didn't ask Guinsoo for any sort of approval, because none of the heroes from 'ALLSTARS' belonged to guinsoo bar 2 or 3. The rest was community made. I think you're confusing Guinsoo with Eul.
EUL created DotA. Not Guinsoo.

Guinsoo just took 'everyones' different DotA heroes and put them all into 1 map called DotA Allstars v3.00 and he continued the series till the 5.xx era. But even then, DotA didn't have the 'charm' of today's DotA as Guinsoo never really had a knack for invention. Most of his items/heroes introduced were really bland and boring. Infact here is a list of heroes introduced under Guinsoo's control: Tidehunter in the 5.74 version. In the 5.75 version that followed it, Ursa Warrior and Atropos were introduced. 5.76 introduced Keeper of the Light, Tinker, Ogre Magi and Sand King. That's it. 7 heroes out of 100+ were created by guinsoo.

IceFrog would have needed to ask 'Eul' for permission, but Eul and Icefrog are working together on Dota2 at Valve, so, yeah.
How bout no? Only 1 designer from the original mod works on LoL. The other guy just made a website for it.

And Dota2 is called Dota2 because it's a sequal for the first one, thus having similar designs. Some heroes (example bloodseeker, and juggernaut) who were forced to use crappy models in DotA due to WC3 limitations got completely revamped with models of how IceFrog envisioned them.

Or "dude did you see that dota2 hero? It has the exact same skill as ___ champ omg dota sucks lolol"

Example of someone who has no idea what he/she is talking about.

You're right. Everything in LoL is 100% unique. Oh let's not forget Riot announcing 5million dollar tournament 2 weeks after Dota2 International finished ($1mill prize)

The Dota2 one has been in the game for about 2 months now, what are you talking about?
The models are strikingly similar no? And it seems the new champ also has a similar skillset, but I can't confirm that.
I agree that 1 is a cent and the other is a flying alienish thing, but Riot had to use the same 'portrait' design, and a similar figure for ingame as well?
Icefrog took over allstars from Guinsoo, but Icefrog still in the end asked Guinsoo if he could use some of the character concepts for Dota2 therefor acknowledging that Guinsoo has as much legitimate claim to the characters that he does.

Next time you wanna talk about the devs, atleast have played and known about DOTA.
Riot makes it too obvious. It's alright that they copy DotA/Dota2, but then when they throw it out as '100% unique content' it sickens me
Oh and this Hecarim dude has skills copied off of Dota's SpiritBreaker.

edit: And let's be completely honest. You're telling me Riot announcing their tourney less than 2 weeks after International just a coincidence?
I think you trying to put significance on the tournament is foolish. You're pretty much saying that because DotA had a tournament (that finished 2 weeks ago if I understand correctly), Riot should no longer be able to announce their own tournaments for fear of "copying" DotA? And now you're trying to say that this new champion half copies 2 different ones. I really don't think Riot should have to check all their champion artwork to make sure it isn't similar to DotA, and I feel to assume that they actually aimed for anything more just becomes seeing what you want to see. The two games were always supposed to be similar, I don't see the purpose of getting all mad when they do end up similar.
Now you're just really reaching for points... Did you guys know that DotA rips off Counter Strike because they have tournaments and so does DotA!

The portrait designs are similar, but the in-game looks pretty different to me. They are about the same shape/size, but that's it. Different colours, different patterns, different everything really.

I just find this thread really useless. You could go around looking for likewise similarities in like every game of similar genres, and probably find them.

"Riot Copies Valve once again"

You do know that Riot and Valve both have people who were originally working on the WC3 mod correct? Both were probably inspired by a dota hero and decided to make it.

I checked the list of heroes for Dota2 and straight away I can list a few that are practically carbon copied right from dota without much design change.

They just re designed the heroes to fit in dota2. Most of them have the exactly same kit and system.

Edit: Does anyone have an extra dota2 beta key for me?

But I guess Icefrog wants to make it as true to the original as possible, where as Riot wants to do something more unique.
