I made one to avoid being put in that awkward situation in the first place.
Anyone who meets new people fairly often generally exchanges their information once the meeting is finished, to keep in touch. Having a Facebook page doesn't require any effort; I don't have to do anything to it each day. It just sits there, and it makes social situations easier when someone inevitably asks to exchange information.

There's nothing sad about that. It's actually quite standard.

Additionally, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with caring about what others think, for reasons I've already stated. I love how people throw that around like it's an insult; yes, yes, I do care about what other people think of me. So do you, and so does that other guy. I can't understand why people are so afraid to admit to that.

I prefer skype... but I barely log on these days. I've hated facebook for a long time but I hate it even more since my ex and I broke up. I hate seeing/finding out about every new girl he's with. We have too many mutual friends.

Not a lot bothers me, but people who can't even read a thread before posting a brazen comment kind of get under my skin. One post above yours, I elaborated on my original point in a way that makes everything you've typed entirely moot.

@Ponified: People sometimes do get judged on how they act, their appearances, etc. It is our natural reaction to want to fit in. These are some of the reasons for bullying in the world.

Responding to my post shows that you care about me understanding your point of view. In essence, you care about how you are perceived by me, or by others in this thread. Otherwise you would not have responded one day after the original post. Every action within your post, right down to the post's creation, proves my point.

There's nothing wrong with caring about how you're perceived by others. Nobody wants to believe that they're so greatly affected by the will of other people; lots of people prefer to think of themselves as independent agents even though nobody exists in a vacuum. You can believe that your lifestyle is founded in hedonistic values, but from your two posts alone, all I can say is that the evidence seems stacked against you. If you respond to my post with a defense of your views, then you will only solidify the notion that you care about how you are perceived by me and anyone following this abstract discussion. That said, I don't really care what you do, so feel free to respond if you want.

Within the context of my earlier post and Facebook, all I meant was that having a Facebook page -- even one I rarely update -- is just [i]easier[/i] than going through that little game where people ask me if I have one, and I say I don't, and they express their disbelief. I'm not one of those people who posts pictures and sweats over whether or not I'll get likes, or whatever. It's just easier to have a Facebook page than it is to not have one, solely because of the downright sickened reactions I've received every time I didn't have one. With how integrated Facebook has become, (even job interviewers use it to snoop on their interviewees), not having one says something about an individual that I would rather avoid altogether.
