anime lovers= not intelectual?

Well, I started to think over the reason why people like to watch anime/manga. I often heard commetns saying that people who are otaku are not really that intelectual at all. So if you like to watch anime/read mang or light novel, tell me your reason. I will like to know.

lol.
Watching Anime is the exact same reason people watch sports, reality shows, basically anything.
It's entertaining.

Anime basically means animation but shortened into three katakanas. And I believe that something this general shouldn't literally make someone stupid, doesn't it?

Well I do agree that cartoons make people stupid but...

I am an otaku and I am not at all stupid (I've completed well over 30 anime and over 20 manga in a week)

I watch it to pass time, and I doubt people that watch anime aren't intellectual. I'm an IB student. lol

Entertainment.

That's like saying watching football is for stupid jocks and is a retarded, deep-south redneck.

Entertainment is entertainment. Western novels, novellas, graphic novels, animation, and movies are no different than anime/manga/whathaveyou.

Basing intelligence on interests is a terrible habit.
Anime lovers are not usually less interested* in reading books.
I read books plenty, and two of my friends who also are interested in
anime read even more books than I. Allison, my friend, is never
seen without a book or manga comic in her and, and although that may
not be healthy, it goes against your view and thinking. I think it's the opposite.
Anime watchers read more.

Most anime fans are usually Asian, and I haven't seen a blonde girl (not being racist,
just proving my point) into anime. And, to say, I haven't seen many blonde girls read too
much either. Now I'm talking about modern Caucasian girls. Not their moms who were born
in a different time and are more into books. You walk into a library, and you don't see many blue eyed
blondes reading for fun. Of course there are always exceptions, but the majority of them
don't read. Anime fans watch for its plot, and that's why they also tend to read more, in my
subjective opinion. But then there are always the types who only like manga for the little
words and lack of many pages, and who also don't like books because they are too lengthy for them.
nice, i sense a worthy debate over here XD. lol. Anyways, from your point of view, yes, you are right in that. It is true that most asians read and watch anime, book (and i mean those that worth for literacy) and also manga, in contrast Western people (well... I really don't know how to call the blonde girls, because I know that saying blonde girls are a little bit too narrow) have party/ dance, drink/ read books (sometimes, once in a while, right?) instead of liking anime and manga. I mean, in America light novels (which are basically novels that have storylines similar to a manga will have) are not that popular as in Asia. So this leads me a feeling that people over here prefer reading comics instread of reading an interesting book.

The reason I watch anime? Because it's entertaining. You guys watch movies, TV shows, play games and sports because it's entertaining, right? Thought so.

I think its more like Anime Lover = Intellectual. I watched animes and read manga hardcore because school was so easy; while other people were doing homework, I was done a long time ago, so I had a lot of free time.
The hidden meaning is usually "must meet deadline every week for most money so i make crappy manga" b/c most of the serialized authors have to meet deadlines.

That's the reason why so many good mangas have gone downhill.

And I disagree with your statement, I do know some people who love anime that aren't dumb.
As I said from my last reply, I didn't meant that otaku/anime lovers are dumb (see my example and the guy who had his friend graduated from berkley) What I meant is that otakus/anime lovers are usually less intreested in reading books. (like pages and pages of words.)
It cheers me up when I'm feeling depressed.
I just get so pulled in and involved with the anime/manga
that I forget about my problems momentarily.
Same with books and music, for me. I also like watching anime
because I can feel myself learning the Japanese language
and its culture.

Also, you spelled "intellectual" and "comments" wrong, so that's
just another basis that just because you don't watch anime, you're
smart. Stop stereotyping ( I agree with the above).
Well, probably I used the word wrong. Sorry my bad. What I am trying to say that people who reads manga/ watch anime doesn't really like reading books like novels and sometimes understand what is the true meaning behind the anime/manga itself. They just do it for "fun". Of course, I am not saying that anime lovers are dumb or something. That is not my point. For instance, my cousins are all high school teachers (and they graduated from the best university/college with high score from my country) yet they are so into the anime that they don't even want to have a girlfriend (they are like 32? around there?)

I don't watch anime all the time, but I've watched a completed 20 or so anime.
I believe some shows are intellectual, to be honest.
It's better than watching Jersey Shore and learning something from them.
"He is careful what he reads, for that is what he will write. He is careful what he learns, for that is what he will know."

I do like to watch anime on occasion, but I personally don't think it's anything overboard. I have a friend (my BEST friend, actually) who graduated from Berkeley, had a 4.0 college GPA, was a HS valedictorian, got 2400 on his SAT on the first try, parties hard, has a gf, is now in a good med school, founded a frat, and is now trying his hand at being a DJ. And he loves anime. I really see no correlation between liking anime and being dumb.
Well, some people say that since anime lovers are just marjority for people who likes to read ecchi/funny things, there is no much of deep meaning in them. Making them to think that there is no deep meaning that it can teach (such as reading a novel that your teacher will tell you to read for hw. well, some of them do, such as Gibili Studios' movies, which I realy enjoy)

It's fun! Where else can you see a haircut battle on a stage that feels like a full-on Kung Fu match? (Beauty Pop, an amazingly hilarious shoujo series.)
