How essential is being 1Hshield user question
Its important for the huge def boost from Shield Mastery, but other then that: how important is being 1H + shield? I'm asking because i have a nice ST endgame from my hero, and dont feel like looking through the fm for hours for a nice atk shield + good 1H sword/mace...

Get a potted shield for Str and Atk. Then get a good 1h weapon, both of those combined will give more damage and def.
2h paladin is like str archmage, you can go that way sure, but be sure to grab your wheelchair on the way out f3.
Paladin is not a hero and thinking like a hero when playing paladin will only land you in land of epic fail. Here's what your really lose if you discard your shield:
1.42% guard rate from guardian.
2. 2/3 of your magical and physical defense.
3. 10 or 20% (with later patches) block rate from shield mastery.
4. 32% status resistance! That's important at bosses!
5. 32% elemental damage resistance.
6. potential lines from shield.
Paladin without shield loses a HUGE chunk of his defense and that is just fail. If you go shieldless to a boss that has decent dmg and secuce...well you'll know how a hero feels like - though you'll still have better defense then them. In short don't go there.
Shield - get to know it, get to love it, sleep on it, sweettalk it, introduce it to your parents, it is your friend f3
I must be an epic fail then right?
@rutger: Sweet i wish you good luck
@hiei909: That was already explained to me in the rest of the thread. Trying to sell ST and make money for a 1H sword+shield.
@Fusoya: The ST is not good actually, 122 atk 10 atk pot... Any idea on the value? Bought a long long time ago before i quit for a year or so, so no idea on price anymore.
Ouch Def not Endgame, my lvl 70 red katana has 147 atk, 8% crit, and 2% str which is really good for a lvl 70 item >.>
@MonsterZed ohhh that's sad for 2h paladins then.. how do you calculate the math btw? i don't really get how w.def or m.def works... i just know iron body reduces 75 dmg or something like that haha.
@SgtMajFoley haha im too noob to test, can't even get to a boss that seduces -.- heard it from some other ppl though.
@MonsterZed I'm pretty sure the %resistance works w/o the shield...
Your ST isn't worth a lot, like 60mil at most...
1-h sword + shield is generally the way to go; however, despite how people on these threads swear by 1h + shield, only a couple actually have shields that are worth a crap. IF you can get a shield with 20+ weapon attack and unique potential, then go for it. Hitting faster is better, especially if youre hitting max. If you cant get your hands on a good shield (which btw costs like 4.5-6b)(2-3b for an OK shield) then you're just fine with a 2H. I personally sold off my 1-h sword and shield recently, despite mikhail's release, so that I could get a 2-h sword for kaiser. It still works just fine for my hero/paladin. In the end though, you really do need a shield for a paladin. Hero doesnt really matter, they'll just get crapped on when kaiser comes out. Paladins will be the only warriors worth anything.
A clear answer to your question: If you consider a 122 att ST to be an endgame weapon, I dont think you're funded enough for 1-h sword/shield to be all that effective for you. Stick with 2h until you have enough mesos.
@ihavefood: Any idea how much the ST would be worth in your world? Or maybe even in bera?
@rutger : that isn't really endgame... i'd suggest 1h + shield. pretty sure you can find a decent sword/mace and perhaps %str/att shield.
@Fusoya: The ST is not good actually, 122 atk 10 atk pot... Any idea on the value? Bought a long long time ago before i quit for a year or so, so no idea on price anymore.
you get 40% dodge rate (? idk the phrasing) which is like thieves' shadow shifter. that's about all? but of course paladins are suppose to be tanks, so unless your defense is really high w/o shield mastery, it will be kind of a joke if a paladin takes >1k dmg...
EDIT: 50%, forgot that shield mastery has another 10%.
