If MapleStory closes
Hey guys, quick question.
Nexon could pull the plug on maintaining the servers and Maple can be over at any moment right? So if I invested a couple hundred, or a thousand or so USD on this game (cubing and such), if they decided to shut it down all that money would be gone, right?

well as long as they profit ... why would they shut it down?
But yes ,I guess that would be a very sad day ...
If MS closes, many peoples lives will have no meaning...

i dunno, my friend played krazy kart rider or whatever it was and spent $75 on nx. after it got shut down monttttthhhssssssss later nexon gave him $75 worth of maple points / whatever isn't prepaid in other games and he spent it on MS. Who knows, maybe nexon will give us the thousands of dollars we spent on the game. or maybe half.

That's not what this is like at all. You don't own your character and you don't own the NX. Nexon does. If Nexon decides to take it all back and not give you anything you have zero right to be upset because you didn't own it in the first place.

I spend money expecting that whatever I buy will last until I decide I longer want it. If you bought a new iPhone, wouldn't you be upset if one day Apple decided to prevent your iPhone from working. You completely lost what you paid for.
The concept seemed similar to me, not sure if it's a concrete analogy but hopefully you get where I'm coming form. I just don't want the money I spend on this game to disappear at a whim.
@savgestarz Like it says in the Terms of Use, all sales are final and not refundable, so consider anything you put into the game as a "sunk cost", meaning it's gone and you'll never see it again.
But actually I think I remember that when DFO closed they gave people who had bought NX recently some kind of compensation they could use in other Nexon games.
So if you want to play Mabinogi or whatever, you might get a few maplepoints (or whatever they use in the other games) to get you started spending money on those games too.

They'd probably give you ~10k nx in compensation for spending money on the game.
"Now go play our other games so that you can use that NX!"
Considering they're just selling pixels on a video game, yes, and also add in the fact NX cash expires, yes.
Nexon would rather leave the game up and make more money off us.
Wouldn't be considered an investment, that's for sure.
