All I really know is that Miyamoto has been talking about ideas for it a lot. He says he has high expectations that the Wii U will do Metroid great justice, as it's "the perfect platform for Metroid." He said he incorporated ideas he wants in the next Metroid game into Metroid Blast, the Nintendo Land attraction. From what I've seen of it, it's like Metroid Prime 3 : Corruption control style, but in 3rd person, which works great, since it gives room for the original Space Jump to return and Shinespark to make another 3D appearance.

I don't think there's any information for a Starfox + Metroid crossover, as that was a suggested rumor for what Retro Studios was working on, but from everything I've heard, Retro Studios doesn't even want to work on a new Metroid at this time. There was a suggested rumor, however, about what kind of ideas were pitched for a Retro Studios-made Metroid for the Wii U.
