Some anime recommendations

So I'm kind of looking for some anime titles to watch. Right now, I'm watching most of what the current season has to offer, so I don't think there's a need to recommend me anything that's still on-going.

Here's my MAL, recommendations similar to what the top 20/30-ish completed titles are would be great

EDIT2
Just to clarify, I'm not looking for series to re-watch or to finish the ones I dropped for whatever reason, but for (already completed; though if it's a series with only like 2~3 seasons out of 4 or something is available, that's fine, too) titles I've not yet watched that are similar to the top titles on my list. I'm not really asking for much outside of the titles that encompass the top 20 or so titles on said MAL.

EDIT
And to clarify, here are some of my favorite series and the sort of titles I'm looking for:
Voices of a Distant Star
Tsumiki no Ie
Angel's Egg
5 centimeters per second
Robot Carnival
Redline (wonderful art)
Grave of the Fireflies
Macross
Gundam (universal century)

Dark rabbit has seven lives-

summary- a guy age 16 (I think) things he's a regular guy, average life. One day he saves a girl from
being run over by a car. Unknowingly he dies but comes back to life. Soon after he remembers a girl from 9 years back that gave him the power of immortality. The girl was trapped for 9 years until he discovered is lost memory and powers

This power isn't really immortality since he can still technically die, 7 lives (6 technically since after 7 he's dead) every 15 minutes. It does not stack more than 7
Code Geass
Basilisk
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Elfen Lied (Takes a rather high maturity level. Nudity and blood but still one of the most beautiful animes I've ever seen.)

For movies I would recommend anything by Hayao Miyazaki:
Spirited Away
My Neighbor Totoro
Howl's Moving Castle
Princess Mononoke

Enjoi
Mature? Only the rating is mature (for extremely over-excessive blood, gore and nudity)... otherwise, the anime itself is pretty immature... or at the very least appeals to it.

Elfen Lied is by far the worst anime I've ever seen... it feigns being art, when it's a disturbingly mean-spirited slap in the face to anyone who likes anime. The over-abundant fanservice is bad enough, but the often unecessary violence and gore is just ridiculous at times. Even in the first episode, the main character violently tears apart an innocent woman in front of a bunch of soldiers just because she was walking by.

There's a scene in the early episodes that does a good job of explaining what kind of shlock you're in for. In the scene, they've sent the now brain-damaged main character (which apparently turns you into a cat-girl... <insert slap to the audience's face here> ) to go get cleaned up. While she's gone, there is a moment of discussion between the two other male and female leads (cousins who, later in the series apparently... 'get together'?) that almost seems like they're attempting some character and plot devellopment. It's at this point where the audience (the intelligent audience) begins to think that "oh... maybe the series is beginning to turn around a bit and be more serious and put some intelligent content in here... maybe it's not so bad after all."... unfortunately, the anime immediately says "HAHAHA, NO... you think we're that smart?" and completely destroys this scene with the main character bursting into the room wet, soapy and naked from coming out of the bath (<insert two slaps to the audience's face, one for the moment and one for assuming the anime was getting interesting> ).

Elfen Lied is, quite frankly, insulting to watch. I highly reccomend NOT subjecting yourself to it if you have not seen it yet.

Hmm, although not particularly to your preferences stated, Bartender is a great series.

Kaiji tops my list as a suspense/drama series. I'm told the manga, along with Fu(k)umoto's other works like Akagi and Strongest Man Kurosawa are superior to their anime counter-parts. I think I found Kaiji to be so enjoyable is because I had the opportunity of struggling through the one episode a week of the second season, the suspension always keeping me on edge for the next. Honestly, I can watch an episode or two and feel like in a time warp. They just pass by so quickly.

I see you haven't seen Stand Alone Complex or 2nd Gig. Probably not your fit at the time, but be sure to check them out. They differ from the movies quite a bit.

And Sword of the Stranger was a fantastic movie. Action, great animation, amazing music, beautiful backgrounds.

That's about all I have on my list that you don't that I could really recommend.

Just to clarify, I'm looking for already completed(though it's the entire series still has a season or two to go, that's fine, too) titles that's very similar to the ones that encompass the top 20 or so titles on my MAL list.

I quite like drama/romance, though fantasy (mythical fantasy, not necessarily stuff like modern supernatural) and science-fiction. I prefer the more serious shows or philosophical titles, though ones with absolutely breathtaking or unique presentation (eg. Redline, Angel's Egg, and Tsumiki no Ie) are also game :x

My favorite movie has to be Welcome to the Space Show (Uchuu Show e Youkoso). It's a big throwback to my childhood. Reminds me a bit of a more sci-fi Disney movie.

Do you like realistic series as I do instead of the usual blunder of magic and spirits? Or too much unnecessary fighting and violence?

@ShiroNoYami:

Ruroni Kenshin - 1600s Ronin action and story based. Not very violent, but the OVA is sort of a different experience, and extremely violent (but great)

Welcome to the NHK (one of my absolute favorites) - modern NEET / hikikomori believing there is a huge conspiracy surrounding the world. Great one. LOTS of suggestive themes in this one so you know.

K-On! - 4 high school girls starting their own band called the Light Music Club. EXCELLENT anime. 2 seasons, around 36 episodes or so total.

(I am sure someone has mentioned this) Ouran High School Host Club - It's just great, you would have to watch it. A girl pretending to be a guy charming other girls.

Edit: NHK has around 26 episodes, k-on around 36, Ouran around 26. Ruroni Kenshin has just short of 100. The main plot lasts until the end of season 2 (ep 62) and the third season is also pretty good.

I hate series [in general] that last forever.

I recommend these two short ones :

-Gun grave
-Elfen Lied

They provide excellent plot line and directing - stuff you see in regular movies instead of children's cartoons...

I can't stand shows like "Naruto" or "DragonBall" because they're so ridiculously childish and have crappy story lines that never end.

I also liked Death Note...
most of the latest anime out there atm is crap 'slice of life' types.
from the bunch i would say occult acadamy, highschool of the dead, and madoka magica. o GOD if u hate magical girl type anime, then watch madoka magica.

other than that, stick wit the classics. ur gundams (wing, 00), ghost in the shell, Code Geass, Death Note, Eureka 7, u see where i'm going with this.
IMO, avoid naruto, bleach, and one piece. everyone, and i mean everyone watches it (side notes: 4kids butchered one piece to no end, bleach = love/hate relations, naruto is better read as a manga imo)
But I already watched all of those titles ):

One piece. The other two big 3 (naruto and Bleach) aren't worth it though. But One Piece stands out for comedy (there's at least always a badass or hilarious scene in each chapter).

For everyone who's posted suggesting Durarara (good suggestion, by the way), might I reccomend to all of you "Baccano!" as well?

Baccano! was done by the same group behind DRRR and both anime actually play off each other a little bit (remember the two eccentric people during the "Dollars meeting"? They're from Baccano! ^_~). Also, though many of you may enjoy anime with the traditional "japanese w/ english subtitles", might I suggest watching Baccano! in english instead? Believe it or not, the english dub may actually be the better way to go in this case. Baccano! takes place (mostly) in 1930s New York and the english VO cast are not only very well-suited to their respective parts, but they also do a great job in putting the appropriate period slang and accents (again, for the most part... there are exceptions).

i almost never get to watch anime but...my favorites are natsume yuujinchou, nichijou, cat soup theatre and gyagu manga biyori. hoshi no umi (yozakura quartet OVA), baccano, durarara, and madoka magica are also good. my taste is kinda bizarre but maybe you'll like one!

It doesn't really matter if it's a movie or not, though right now I think I'll want a few more series to watch unless there's quite a lot of good movies :x
