When was Maple ruined?

Lets debate this
say a specific patch or time period that you think ruined maple, and why :o

I'd say it was around the second stage of the Visitor PQ invasion-
Why? Two meso exploits that were released within two weeks of each other, ongoing HT fadings, and MASS bogus ban waves that only half of the victims were released from.

well since i really dont know much about what happened to maple story during my 2.5 year break, i'd say it got ruined in january~febreuary when there was the familiar hack, the game kept on crashing, and the final result being the rollback.

Maple was ruined when Nexon took over.

The update with Potential and Enhancement system, Dual Blades and Chaos Zakum and Horntail ruined the balance in MapleStory. Big Bang made the game easier until level 120, but LHC completely made the game too easy with no challenge. I feel sad for GMS where the party play system in LHC hasn't been removed yet (.. and Strongholds, but these will get added back later on like in KMS)

MapleStory was created for fun purposes, not for competition or making money. Gosh I really miss old Maple

In my opinion, it was never destroyed to me. I still find it a very fun game that has extremely bad customer service, but it still is going strong, regardless of what everybody says. If I had to pick something that damaged it the most though, I'd say that it'd be potential.

Around November 2011 - Jan 2012. The MASSIVE crash channel dupes were around this time. One month before the 596 att ST and 301 att cravens nuke. During that time 596 ST's were 11k nx LOL.

when it got boring...
I am not against hackers(not account hackers... i am against them) like dupers. But i am not for them. I do not think that they ruined the game. only crashes have been allitle inconvinient.
I personaly think it was the start of the DDos attacks that kept the game down for a long time and made it LAGG

Nothing ruined it yet. It is still a good game IMO. You just think of it with everyone else as a terrible game and it's all Nexons fault.

Personally, potential devastated my hero. I had to abandon it because her equips were no longer suitable (dex equips, 2H sword saving up for a NRW/ST).

Oh man, TS... Basically what you had already listed among other events started much hate and regret to this game from those who could not adapt to change. There is always gonna be something to complain about, but the game is not ruined persè, just the players' expectations for something good to come out of all of these drastic changes and issues/ fixes for these issues. So much has happened to negatively affect the majority player experience that those left in the past who cannot or refuse to adapt to the change in gameplay have either quit the game or refuse to see Nexon improving in their game quality and services. This game has gone through a lot of exploits, hack and dupe attacks, server system crashes which in turn affect GMS worlds entirely... What most players seem to deny the most though, and the most important realization that players should come to when analyzing the cause of most issues that dont appear in debates often enough is the fact that the majority of these issues are because of the players.

Hackers are players for the most part, so are dupers, exploiters and glitchers too. Even since Nexon and Wizet had first started this game, there were those who decided to take advantage of players during the games starting run and felt the need to selfishly hog or steal items from people and by any means possible through the loopholes Nexon hadn't thought about. Most would say this is Nexon's fault for not taking these possible exploits into account, but I am pretty sure at this point it really couldn't have been the company's true mission statement so even they could not see some of these issues coming; They arent psychics.

If the game really was ruined, I would say just the community aspect of it is in real shambles while the events and game instability have been almost like distractions to prevent most people that are against them from realizing how rediculous some of their accusations are. If only there would be more people to realize where the issues truely lie, than just blame the company outright without any real evidence to back them up... Evidence of the community ruining the game more than its company? The majority of threads on this site, along with the hate from most players that is usually aimed towards those who feel the need to speak out against such rediculous debate.

I have nothing against the players technically, only their form of shunning those with a voice of reason. I still think it is odd how many people still think they should rely on exploiters; They are taking advantage of our integrity, ignorance and the sense to want to belong to something, these are some characteristics that make us human players in the game we call Maple. What madness deserves such attention? We are only as ignorant and weak to believe in such a system as our close minded egos allow it. Do not forget players... We may have lost a lot, but we still have options and WE are the ones who really CAN make the difference in this game. Without the players, there is no game, but there is always a negative factor that sometimes makes it seem that all is lost, BUT it is not.

I no longer care if people are too lazy to read my comments and threads to their entirety, as long as they understand where we all stand in this neverending human ego battle for gaming integrity and liberty to have fun for goodness sakes.

Happy Mapling, Everyone!
It was ruined when they put that idiotic EXP/drop nerf system in during Ascension. Really, it didn't stop macroers at ALL, they can just kill themselves, lose all the EXP, and always be at the highest level to not get hit by the EXP/drop nerf. The only people ruined by it were legitimate players. You already get less EXP/kill the higher your level is. Well, less EXP% per kill, but you get the idea. Why does it matter if a level 80 wants to train on level 50 monsters? All the EXP nerf system does is wreck unfunded players too; once you go 20 or more levels above the monster, guess what? You can't hunt for your equips and instead have to come up with a few million PER PIECE. I know everyone will say "Just merch, use Gachapon, buy 10 atks, etc", but not EVERYONE has access to NX and not everyone has the patience to merchant. All in all, that's why I quit for 3 1/2 months; the EXP/drop nerf has no purpose since bots can simply die on purpose to lose the EXP and stay within 100% drop range and unfunded players are now forced into higher level mobs they cannot kill efficiently at all.
On paper the changes Ascension made to the EXP and Drop Rate systems may seem terrible. However in actuality they only create minor issues some of which can easily be bypassed.
First off if you're playing MapleStory properly you will usually be training on monsters that are less than five levels below you. Therefore you will nearly never experience a drop in EXP from them. Nexon also accounted for the times where players may actually want to train on a monster once they level above them by making certain monsters have a consistent EXP allocation regardless of the player's level such as those in Singapore, Lion Heart Castle, and the Haunted Mansion.
Hunting for equipment is still fairly easy. The equipment monsters drop is generally related to their level. E.G. Level 80 monsters drop level 80 equipment.
In my opinion the only bad thing Ascension caused was that you can no longer farm items such as people did with Angelic Blessing Recipes and Mecateons. At least you can't do it on a high level character. An easy work around is to create a class that farm well such as an Ice/Lightning Mage, level it to about 70, an employe the same tactic bots do to farm post-Ascension, killing yourself before leveling.
Ascension is not what ruined MapleStory despite the problems it may have created. Especially since many of these problems have workarounds. I'm not going to lie, I hated the changes the update made to the EXP and Drop Rate systems as well. However that was until realized they weren't actually a significant issue. They're tolerable and an impediment to botters; even if it may be a small one.

Just throwing this out there, I actually most of the changes Maple's had save for the cubes and stuff like that which are just blatant, shameless ways for Nexon to make more money. Big Bang UI update was super, super sexy.

Combination of the potential system + bigbang/ascension/chaos updates. The general problem is everyone is too strong, and that destroys any intended group content (which is pretty much the only endgame content).
