Any of you guys up for a Basil Secret Santa art exchange?
So as the title says, any of you down for it? I've seen tons of journals on dA hosting these exchanges and I thought it'd be cool to have one on Basil. If you guys are fine with it, someone should help me set up rules, the exchange system (what you'd like and how people should be chosen) , and deadlines.
EDIT: To anybody that comes to this thread or has commented, please refer to this thread to participate!~ http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2748085/0/Basil_Secret_Santa_participation.html

is there like a requirement quality-wise? Like it has to be pretty AS HECK with bunch of colors and all that because i want to participate but don't have enough time to do all that
ok nvm i decided to read the whole thread
This sounds so awesome! I want to participate too! Aw yeah I'm so pumped
-minimum standard @KonataAT suggested sounds the least complicated. Though It'd be rad if everyone would try to do full/semi coloring since we'd have over a month.
I think we should make the minimum a little higher than a sketch, like at least a clean line art.
-all artists send their drawing to the host, through a pm, and the host could make a thread in the art section and post them all. the fact that whose going to draw for whom is going to be hidden until Christmas week and revealed in the thread on the deadline when it's posted. the due date would be around December 15~18. Deadline should be 18th to give backup drawers some time to make up for the slackers.
-the pariticipation deadline should be this sunday, time is running out.
-The host will privately message all the artists partner's On tuesday and we start this secret santa frick frack
Wow this got really complicated really quickly.
Since everyone is giving their opinion, I guess I will, too.
You decide on a "minimum standard ".
What I mean by this is say the minimum everyone is expected to submit is a sketch.
If an artist wants to do more than a sketch thats up to them, how much time/effort they have etc. But in the end everyone should just expect a sketch and nothing more.
This way, you know everything you do past a sketch is already over what is going to be expected, and in return you shouldn't expect more than that.
@KaichouShion: I took the time to think over the idea of whether it should be a decision of the people or luck. You're right. The decision for which category they are interested in should be made by the participants, and if there is an uneven number in one or few categories, we can just have a back-up artist or two to fill in that void. The idea for categories to be equally divided was due to my OCD, but now I realize that doesn't matter. As for the exchange, I don't really like the idea of people going out of their way to create an account or blog solely for this purpose. So, here's another idea. The planners themselves create a tumblr with the submit function enabled. Anything related to this event will be posted on this blog. Participants can then submit their artwork. Note that on the submit page, there are two tabs which says that name and email are required for submission. Don't worry though, fake names and emails are allowed for anonymous submission. All in all, I feel that secret santa should be as secretive as possible. However, artists can choose to create accounts and sign their artwork if they like.
@MuEnLi: I understand that the categorization idea was a little vague, but we were discussing whether the number of people should be equally divided among categories, not the artwork. It's a good idea, but I think it would make the exchange process a little more difficult. If there is one artwork created by a pair for another person, wouldn't there be a shortage of circulation? Or do you mean that each pair creates two pieces, since each person is assigned a number? Then, I think pairing up artists is not necessary. The amount of work would be the same, if not, more than intended, because like you said, it's a hassle to keep in contact with another person through the internet. The point you made about the OP is absolutely correct though. Where in the world could he/she be?
Edit: @Palling: THANK YOU. I admit i get too carried away with suggestions since there wasn't much of a plan, with the OP MIA, but I've already put in my two cents in. We gotta start somewhere if we wanna get this show on the road, right?
I think I'd like to participate.
I would love to join this secret santa drawing thing!
I wouldn't mind doing this at all! (I don't have the credentials/rep for it though - my deviantart: http://bevlemagnus.deviantart.com contains more of my better pieces)
@xMYSTERiUS: Of course, it'll be chosen by the participants. Like they state whatever subject they can do, and be equally divided? Or first come-first served? Though, that'll be unfair to those with limits of what they can do.
Exchanges may be made on Deviantart, or make a tumblr page to submit it by? Then the one running it all can make a new tread, post the image links, and tag the gift-takers by Christmas, updating the thread as few-days late submit theirs.

Though we should start earlier. November 1st sounds well, but it's still early now, since we haven't gotten organized correctly.
Though I think if we have enough people to sign up categories will be split up between, Semi-Full Colouring, Line Art, and Sketch. It wouldn't be worth it if one takes the time to draw and colour a picture and get a half-arsed drawing in return.
- Also, to everyone that joins in should make a list as well in a separate thread or PM the generator person to get well-organized.
If we are to take in several artists to be back-up for the late/undone, sign me up! I need more people to help me get used to my tablet. c:
Oooh, nice Kaichou. Categorization is a good idea. It'd be fair, but will the decisions be made by the participants, or randomization? Hm... it'd be easy to figure out if there's a program or something that also factors in extra elements like grouping. lmao, if not, we can do it the old-fashion way: luck of the draw out from the old hat. First X amount of people for one category, second X amount of people for another, third dadada. Having people choose which they want, might cause uneven distribution, unless its first-up basis. I'm also wondering, how might the exchanges be made?
I would like to join... please. (; ^_^)/ and to suggest something as well.
As for how the plan would be executed, I'm thinking like this: ground rules would be an registry deadline(at least a month before Christmas, maybe after Thanksgiving?); then with the list of confirmed participants(on the thread or via message to planners?), within 24 hours after the deadline, we can toss those into a website/app that spits out random assignments for each person. I just checked this out - an app called Open Secret Santa in the playstore. No registration or email required, just input names, so your privacy is kept at bay. I think it's pretty on point with simplicity and user-friendliness. Any other suggestions are welcome. However, the keeper who generates the list into the app, must not be part of the exchange, so that no secrets are out. So, maybe a random highly responsible person here would be up for that? Or maybe a friend/family member. Hmm... Exchange can be done some time the week of Christmas? As for the content of the artwork: Either a colored or B/W piece? Style and theme up to artist. Explicit content? BG optional? Line art? Dimension limits? I don't really have an idea. gomen >_< What does everyone else say? D:
i would lovee to participate but if it does happen, please allow enough time to draw (a month maybe, since i can't predict when i'll have time D :>
I won't slack~
I'm down with this! It definitely sounds like fun!
I'm excited to see where this goes.
this sounds pretty fun uwu I promise i wont slack yo lets do it
Ooh! I'm not sure if I qualify, but I would love to join.
If this really goes through, I'd love to participate as long as we have enough people for this?
By secret Santa, I hope you'll mean Christmas time, because all of the college kids are still in school right now, and than after that, everyone will have Christmas break.
I'm down for it <3 idr last time i was in a secret santa, but it wouldnt be the same if we do it on DeviantArt
idk basil isn't exactly known for lots of committed artists so if it ever does get big a lot of people won't do their drawings
that's why I'm personally content with the "draw above you" thread
you can't predict the person that draws you and the person you draw couldn't have predicted that you would draw them when posting
@juni KaichouShion is pretty known.. at least in the art section And that's a good suggestion.

That's why I made this thread as vague as possible. Never said it had to be a finished drawing, but yeah, not sure about the slackers... Maybe anyone who participates has to have at least 3 screens on Basil or something?
Edit: Unless you're pretty well known or something
that doesn't sound very fair esp. to people like KaichouShion lol. or one or two reliable artists can be the back-up artists who sketch something for anyone who ends up having a slacker partner. but so far the people who commented seem pretty trustworthy.
I would be totes in, but I deleted my screens and I'm not known. hehehe////

I would be in for it..maybe.
I don't really know the artists around basil right now.
uhhhh maybe just a sketch/doodle would be cool, i don't want to end up being obligated to draw something when i might be really busy.
other than that maybe it'd be fun. like the others said i'm 99% sure there would be slackers if you just let any basiler join though. that is the only problem
^yeah pretty much. i thought more than that were completed, but maybe not.... everyone's just too lazy for anything haha. or more like, only a few people are too lazy which ends up wrecking the whole thing
@pinksinsftw Darn. Well, thanks for at least replying. It sucks when no one tries
We used to do it a couple years back on tumblr but only 2, 3 drawings were passed around. So we gave up. :c
