Post Maplestory osJIN Story

Hello Basilmarket. It's been a while since I posted on this site, but to the people who are interested in reading... I posted a while back in February that I was quitting Maplestory. And I said I would post my "business" ventures.
. A little recap, during the years that I played Maple, I was a some what well known merchant in Bera. I quit maple story on my 18th birthday (February 8, 2012), to further my skills in trading and merchanting. I decided to sell almost all of my in game items/mesos/nx and gained a start up of ~$10,000. It was a good enough start to build off small. When I quit Maple, I had no idea how I would continue to make money... unlike Maple where I knew the prices of any item in game, the real world was a much bigger place and quite difficult to manuever through. At first, I started with futile efforts. I looked online on Ebay to research prices merchandise that I could "merchant." I looked up all the prices from jewlery to clothing. However I had a problem in that so many people had already set succesful business's through Ebay that it would be impossible for me to sell. Having no experience, I decided to buy a bunch of snap back caps. These snap backs had no logos on them and I had a friend was a very accomplished artist. I told him to make a design for me and I would buy it for $50. He did and I began to sell snap back hats on Ebay. At first the trade was slow. Eventually I made a few hundred bucks off that. But the process was to slow, and I decided to shut it down.

I moved on looking for ways to profit off small things. A while back while I played Maple, I bought used ipods from people in my city via facebook and sold them on ebay/craigslist making $40 profit. I then found out that deffective ipods were sent back to the company, fixed and sold for a cheaper price. I contacted several managers of near by apples store and made a deal to buy bulk deffective, but fixed ipods for cheap. Some of the stores didn't have deffective ipods and some did. However most of the stores I went to declined my offer due to ToS reasons. Finally the manager at an Apple's store agreed to my terms and sold me 50 deffective itouchs' for $40 each. I then managed to sell those ipods on Ebay/Craigslist for $90 a piece making a cool $50 profit which rounded to $2500. I was ecstatic. It worked. I had made $2500 in a month. I was 18, in high school and I had a way to earn money. I was happy. The following month with confidence I bought 80 itouchs'. This month I had a bit of a struggle selling and managed to sell 55 itouchs'. I had lost $1000 in this venture. I wasn't upset. I could sell the itouchs' later, but I learned a valuable lesson and stocked 50 itouchs'. Within two months, I had made close to $8,000. Now i'm a human being and I was unbelievably statisfied with my work.

The next month, a friend of mine in Korea told me about how Samsung was the largest company in Korea and how it dominated a large part of Korea. Samsung is so big that it has a monopoly on many fixed things in Korea. My friend told me about how Samsung pays very well. At this time, my cousin's husband, who also lives in Korea, told me that in order to be successful in selling anything, you have to sell in bulk and an item that is not well sold. I went out drinking with one of my friends one night and I was sick drunk and that's when I broke a glass bottle. At that moment I had an epiphany. Hotels. Plates. Utencils. Cups. Samsung. Samsung own Hotel. Many glassware break in hotel. Hotel need glassware. Samsung pay well.

In Los Angeles, many hispanic families own Princess House glassware/kitchen utencils. However in Korea I didn't know what kind of glassware was well liked. I made calls to my family that lived in Korea asking about the glassware in Samsung hotels. Almost all off them were from Italy, France, Germany. With the help of my cousin's husband, we started a glassware business in Korea. He did most of the leg work and I invested in the company. He visited hotels making propositions to the managers and eventually all the work payed off. The specific hotel that he went to bought 1000 plates that we had imported from Italy at 20,000 won a piece (~$18).

All in all, my $10,000 made from playing Maplestory turned into ~$50,000 by the beginning of July. I'm in Korea right now on business and pleasure and I thought I would write this to the Maple players out there. This may be a bit poorly written/ and slightly vague because it's 2 AM here and i'm slighlty buzzed. I cannot divulge specific imformation due to legal rights, however if you have a question feel free to post and I will try to answer them asap.

It was really good to post back on basilmarket.
Happy Mapling~
Just saying, Game is Game, Real Life Is Real Life, They Cant never ever Connected together.

But here. Congratulations to u got $50,000 from spent 4years on the game and got that much money to funded your "life". but what if you chose to work?(8th grades-12th grades..Can ppl work in real life after 14 or 15 years old? sry i dont know, but what if they can, they can get at least $50,000)

There is no point to share your Experienced on how to merchat in a "Game" to earn money, ppl would like to spend 4 years time on working(in real life) if they want to.

Do ppl rly want to spend their 4 years time to sit in front of a computer(Game) to make/earn money from a game?

You chose to make money from game, but other ppl chose to find some fun from the game.(but you are right, You can be having fun while in the game to make money.)
First of all, an online game contains a community comparable to a real society and since players are real people, influences on online people are influences on real people as well. The connection there is self-explanatory in respect to the fact that he was able to market so considerably to be able to well a profit. Denying there is no connection between real life and a game is denying Nexon's gains from selling virtual items.

Secondly, you need consent from your school to be allowed to work at that age, and it's ever more difficult to find work at that age as well.

Thirdly, the specialized education he got from his online merchant-ing experience is invaluable compared to the money he could have obtained by mindlessly working. Even if he were to have worked toward his aspirations over continuing his virtual experience, he would have stunted his school education and have limited his future endeavors in his desired career due to the excessive limitations, barriers, and unpreparedness (wow, that's a real word? o-o) he would have at that age.

In conclusion, your statement is biased.

OT: I really found your story very inspiring and makes me really ashamed at my current amount of determination, being of a similar age (17). I hope your endeavors succeed well and you continue to cherish and learn from your experiences while playing this game.

Edit: By the way, you got the very first "Like" I've given in the 7 or so years I've been on this site.

Not really something that should be proud of. It sounds like an accomplishment to you but most of the humans beings are able to turn $10k into $50k.

One of the most average bragging accomplishment I've heard in a while.

@Everyone: Thank you for the words of encouragement!
@NuleNu: That's quite the passive aggressive post you got there. A game can attribute to real life, after all what's real life but social constructs that man created? Perhaps you mean relatable, but connectable is most definitely possible; especially through players like you who make it possible for my conquests in Maple to be spread through real life text. I thank you. Fortunately for me, although I am not the wealthiest person out there, my working class parents were able to support me through my middle school and high school years therefore I didn't have an immediate need to work. I played Maple for fun back then with no intents on making money, just like you. And it turned out that I was a pretty successful merchant and able to make some cash. The profit I made after selling my in game items were all in the course of several months, and i'm satisfactory with the results. Having fun is different for everyone. As you say, sitting for four years in front of the computer making virtual/real life money was fun for me. That's my subjective view on the matter and clearly it's much different from yours... Again, subjectively, your post was very contradictory, but i'm grateful for your comment.
@Happy2Days: Oh Karen I feel for you.

Amazing story. People who achieved that much success on maple definitely have a shot at being successful in the real world as well. I also started a business after I quit maple on july 2011 but it failed and I went in debt. I'm lucky to have ran into this thread while I was bored and randomly decided to get on basilmarket after a year. I'm envious/proud of you and I know you will make it to the top just like on Maple if you are lucky.

@TwixMoment: At the moment the business is limited to Samsung hotels (It's a bit more than we can handle atm). We sell bulk so buying a seperate set isn't in our range. We import Richard Ginori China from Italy which isn't as high end as you're looking for. I hope all goes well with the glasswear finding~
