Why is Thanksgiving even considered a holiday

That's my question. Why is Thanksgiving even considered a holiday anymore?

Sure, there was Thanksgiving way before our time, but that was when everyone actually looked forward to it. Now, we look at Halloween straight to Christmas. Whatever happened to Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving was a time for thanks, where everyone can enjoy themselves with family members and friends. We can all talk to each other about our lives, how everyone is doing, and just have plain fun. Now-a-days, Thanksgiving is like a birthday that everybody knows in America. Ever since Halloween ended, Christmas commercials are blasting its way. There is almost no Thanksgiving commercials out there in television, so now i am wondering... why?

Long story short: Thanksgiving wasn't as big as it use to be back then. Why?

Just because a holiday isn't commercialized doesn't mean that it's not a holiday. That's actually a good reason not to celebrate a holiday. Christmas is SOOOOO much more than just giving gifts. Take St. Patrick's Day for example

It celebrates when Saint Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland. Is that why America get's drunk instead? No. It's because commercialism grabbed hold of it and crapped it out. Christmas isn't about Santa. And Halloween isn't about Satan. Trick or Treating was meant to be a way to bribe pranksters from an old Ireland celebration that went out of control in America.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday. It's not just about spending time with your family either. It's about giving thanks. And the issue that the populous has, is who are they giving thanks to exactly? Think about that this coming Thanksgiving, or was it's now known as, Black Friday Eve. (Makes me sick....)
*End of rant, thanks for letting me get that off my chest, sorry*
