NX on friend's account

I have this friend irl, and he hasn't played maplestory in a couple years. I go onto his account to borrow his maple skanda, and i find out he has 96k nx. He hasn't moved towns since i was on his char last, hasn't lvled, and hasn't done anything to any of his characters. His transaction log had nothing for the past 90 days. Anyone know how he could've gotten this nx? I don't have his # anymore, but i'm trying to get it to see if i can use it. But is there any other way he could've gotten nx other than purchasing it?

edit: i checked mts, nothing there...
