@Darkness129 But.... Ufo's work with F/Z....

lol terrible subbing. That "quote" got lost in translation unfortunately.
Let's be honest, nobody was expecting UBW to be good. We all just watch it for the eye candy.
i'm not big on the fate series so it's way more up my alley to watch a 10 hour adaptation, accuracy be damned, than sink at least 3x the time into a VN. which honestly, i hate the format of VNs. AA and Zero Escape are exceptions because there's some extra gameplay to it, but even then those play way too slow.
anyway, i know the deal with fs/n being three stories and this is just The Middle, so Shirou being stagnant isn't a problem for me, because i'm expecting HF to wrap that all up. even so, one character lacking an arc isn't the death of a story, UBW has plenty interesting going on with Rin, Caster, Lancer, and Heracles/Irisviel. it's definitely faltering now, with how badly they've paced the climax (stretched over 3 eps, constantly cutting to Lancer/Rin, Archer talking in circles) but that's the only problem i've had as a non-VN person.
Heracles and Irisviel had pretty much no depth this season, all of the flashbacks were anime original content that barely contributed to their originally conflicting ideals, though it's a bit better if you've watched f/z. If they had an additional episode that stayed true to the VN, it'd be amazing though.
The same goes for caster, her "old" master flashback was pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things; it highlighted nothing about her as a character other than portraying her as a "uhuhuh master you are powerless" sadist. It all just kinda seems to chip away at the already poorly established atmosphere, which again comes back to disfigure the climax of Shirou vs Archer. At this point, I feel as if they should just make the story revolve around Rin, considering the number of monologues ufotable decided to give her. Even as a Shirou fan myself, I can't bring myself to like Ufo-rehashed Shirou, who screams "TEEEMEEEE!" whenever his nerves are tinkered with
Also, the idea of the original VN to me was for the events of the war to contribute to Shirou as well. With the way they've tailored the show, maybe it'd be prudent to skip Answer

But the adaptations have narratives that pale in comparison to the VNs.
Arguably, "bad", even without being situated with the VN's quality. There's practically no development for Shirou at all, yet they want to make "answer" climatic, like wut. It's just less fun 4 a tryhard like me
Archer and Shirou are hilarious together. Archer spends like 3 eps spilling his heart out to the guy and then Shirou's just like NO YOU
@0kevqn this is where it gets a little confusing in 2005 fate/ stay night came out but in that series it was a different route than the FSN:UBW after the 2005 one there was a movie where the UBW route was adapted but i wouldn't recommend the 2005 or the movie the animation isn't the prettiest in the world. Ufotable is the animation studio that adapted Fate/zero , the prequel to FSN: UBW. Most people call the ufotable adaption of UBW unlimited budget works, because this is some high quality animation. So you could watch the fsn that came out in 2005 it followed a different route and i don't like the animation and if you don't want to watch 25 episodes you could watch the FSN:UBW movie (heads up the movie was really rushed) due to the time limit it didn't explain it self that well
TLDR;
Fate/zero-FSN:UBW (2014)
or
Fate/stay night (2005)- Fate/stay night :Unlimited blade works (movie)- Fate/zero- Fate/stay night:UBW (2014)
Thinking about watching this Anime, but I don't know which series to start with
It is sooo good. One of my favorites
@razormana
I think it's sub-par when it's not beholden to the VN regardless.
o and steins;gate, clannad pretty based
@Fluxxxxx
You basically just said what everyone says about any adaptation from a visual novel, its rare to find an anime that lives upto or even exceeds its visual novel counterpart.

this thread is bad lol
fate series is fun and cool, i really hope they get around to adapting stuff like f/ha and f/e because i'd rather not have to play them. some of the thematic elements/ideas in f/sn are pretty "edgy teen" or "overly optimistic" but i'm not using the series as a bible so that's fine.
This. It seems like the Lancer class needs it considering how many times they impale themselves by "accident"
Those were no accidents, my friend. Rank E Luck is their problem. Being Lancer is suffering.
I'm currently going through the VN atm. Pretty good so far, but my roommate spoiled me to a lot of stuff.

The first one is ridiculous. However, the second one is more about morals.
And why didn't Lancer die? Lol he just kept getting up over and over again with no reason as to why he should be dead.
Two words: Battle Continuation.
I gotta agree with @Kazzooey the whole franchise is boring and might be more interesting if they just condensed the 24 episode series into 12 episodes.
This show is just so bad. They've spent about 2-3 episodes now with Shiroe and Archer pretty much saying the same ideals over and over and over and over and over again. And why didn't Lancer die? Lol he just kept getting up over and over again with no reason as to why he should be dead. I know some people out there like it, especially Fate/Fanboys but this was even more boring and stupid than Fate/Zero IN MY OPINION.
