Reducing lag/Game freezing

Hey guys,

So I just came back to maple after a few years and was wondering if anybody has tricks to reduce lag?

I am using a computer that's about twice as good as my old one, and on a better network, but I have WAY more lag. When I use skills the whole screen freezes for a bit and unfreezes with the drops and monsters dead.

I have all my graphics set to low, turned off my pets and auto loot, have 16 gigs of ram, running windows 8.1, ~30 ping, 4 MBPS upload speed and roughly 50 MBPS download speed.

I just wanna be able to see what's going on without having to guess/hope if I'm aiming at the target and such. Any help's appreciated.

You can't really check it because every model laptop uses a different one.

While it's not a top end one, it's better than my old one but has worse results.

You didn't unzip it into the Maplestory folder, so it thinks it's loading without black cipher.
When you unzip that file that you download, you'll get a folder called Black Cipher. Drag that into your "Maplestory" folder. Make sure it's not in a subfolder.

All this is doing is manually reinstalling Black Cipher.

Check your Maplestory folder for NexonGuard. If it's there, delete it.

If that's not there, go to your Maplestory folder and delete your Black Cipher folder. Then go download this (it's from the official site): and unzip it into your Maplestory folder: http://download2.nexon.net/Game/MapleStory/BlackCipher/BlackCipher.zip

Also, why do you have 16GB of RAM? Unless you're doing some hardcore 3D rendering software, you'll never use that much.
I did this then, after HS finished loading then a message pops up says ''Maplestory has stopped working''
I cannot check. It's an intel graphics family card on my Dell so it's not listed. Dell has it customized and hidden, even with admin priveleges.

I'm attempting to do a driver/system detect through dell support.
Then it's probably integrated.

Double checked: it is. It's integrated. And it's not a very good one, either.
You're gonna have a hard time playing with that.
I'm not sure if it's integrated or dedicated.

And no, my laptop never overheats. I can push it pretty hard without any issues at all
Can you CHECK if it's integrated or dedicated?
Integrated graphics stress the CPU more, which can cause that lag you're seeing.

If none of this is the problem, the problem may be the OS. I've heard Windows 8 has been acting up for a lot of people. You could try running in compatibility mode for windows 7.
Yup.

Also, I did not have nexonguard. And I just downloaded MS 3 days ago, so I think my blackcipher should be fully up to date
It's not that it's fully up-to-date or not. It's that they potentially screwed up black cipher during the patch and having a clean install of it would fix this.

Also, if this is a laptop, that's probably your problem.
Do you have dedicated graphics? or integrated?
Is your laptop overheating? Laptops are notoriously crammed and poorly ventilated and an overheating CPU can cause the type of lag you're talking about.
