It's my birthday todayand I need Basil's help.

I turned sixteen. Happy birthday to me. I'm depressed as hell because I've spent half of the daylight hours today utterly and completely alone. Which is ironic, because I've been swamped with Facebook 'happy birthdays' from people who pretend to be my friends. I have so many friends, but I have no friends. My parents got back in the evening, asked me what I wanted for dinner, and then ignored my response and took me to a dump where they ordered all of the stuff I didn't ask for.

I'm not getting a cake because 'I'm too old for that kiddy crap' and 'we won't be able to finish the whole thing anyway'. So later I'll just stick a candle in a cracker and wish for things that will never come true. But I'll wish anyway, just for the heck of it.

Basil, please cheer me up and tide me over, at least until my birthday is done with.

Thanks everybody. For the kind words, and well, not so kind words that slapped me awake just the same. You're right, there ARE worse things in life than lonely birthdays. I'm going to stop wallowing and lock the thread.

Happy Birthday.

I haven't celebrated my birthday since 12 and I am 20.
I don't even care if I get "Happy Birthday" wishes from people anymore.
My parents don't ask what I want, I go tell them I want something for my birthday.

Don't put too much thoughts at this one occasion, you have the whole year.

When you haven't celebrated your birthday for the last 17 years you can come here and complain.

aren't you
Umm, yeah.

@BlaqkSwet That is some of the most honest and down-to-earth, but hardest to follow advice I have ever heard. I'm sure it'll change my life, if I'm brave enough.

@prvate69na That's...I'm really sorry to hear that, girl. I hope you find happier days =(

Well first of all, Happy Birthday

I hope you don't have to suffer what happened today ever again c:

Happy Birthday, its my birthday as well.

(Assuming its the 24th where you live). I also turned sixteen. xD

I spent the day at home, on Maple or on Facebook/MSN where I talked to people. Sometimes I like being by myself so yeah. My brother called me a loner but its up to me what I do.
what I would do is not expect to gain happiness from something that has no value or purpose (birthdays).
I'll try my best. Thank you for not only making me feel better now, but for teaching me to feel better about every future birthday after today.
I'm sorry to hear that. Frankly, I've stopped getting things for my birthday when I was 15, and I'm 18 now. Gather a few close friends, go to some restaurant, and do something embarrassing. Always helps me.
I haven't been getting presents either, but that's not what gets me. Presents are like...material possessions, you know. I don't care about presents. The thing is I don't have any 'close friends' to do embarrassing things with anymore.
They might not be there for you.

But Basil always will <3 Happy birthday princess.
Aww, thank you! *hugs*

Thanks fellow Basilers, I never expected so many people to sympathize with me. You've cheered me up heaps!
Well there isn't much to say since we merely disagree upon sentiments. Dishing out opinions or situations won't solve anything so I'm just going to disagree.
well I disagree again, I think there is a lot to be gained by arguing out different viewpoints, but it doesn't look like you'll humor me so I'll drop the issue.
I think "false" sympathy is a bit presumed. There are people who are willing to talk about problems online, regardless of whether they're strangers or not.
excuse my cynicism, but i disagree. people can only be so emotionally invested in a conversation that takes place over a monitor.

false sympathy from strangers online will only make you feel worse. I would suggest sitting down with someone you really love and trust, and talking out your issues with them.

unless you have no such person, in which case, enjoy being foreveralone.

happy birthday.

Like kwittingsale said.. i don't value my birthday or expect happiness from it. I rarely tell anyone and leave it like that. Most people say happy birthday, but they don't really care when you tell them it's today.
