Suggestion: Drawing Confirmation

This is mainly because of how often we see plagiarized work get submitted, claiming it's theirs, such as this one.

If someone submits a drawing to the screen section, they must provide proof that it is indeed theirs. Either a copy of the original file (if using Photoshop/SAI/etc, there's a specific filetype for that program) or a screenshot of the work in progress... anything. I'm personally tired of seeing ripped off work and I'm sure the mods are too.

If there's a better way to organize this, feel free to suggest something better. I'm typing this in a rush, so I've no time to think of a better method.

EDIT: Other good options are a report button for screens and getting mods to monitor screens with the ability to delete them if need be (this one is the best idea so far because it involves the least amount of hassle).

Is tracing for a sketch really that easy? O_o
I kind of think it's a good idea, so when you submit your art, you have to give proofs of your lineart/sketch as well (whatever you call it).

It's lame that work get stolen and accepted in basil I think the proof talk here is a good idea, but for now I guess we can't do much but report copycats for breaking Rule #4 - Illegal Activities >> Plagiarism and provide the original place, I guess.

I'd say it'll only be necessary if the person is new with screens; although I doubt this would happen because that means mrbasil would spend even more time looking at screens, approving them, and it'll eventually take even longer for the screen to even show up. =|

As RKyais said, it's a good idea to link back to an art site for your gallery (again, I doubt this would happen because mrbasil doesn't allow linking to deviantART or any other site in screens, I know this part o.e).

If it's already someone experienced, then there's no need for this.

I hate it when people do that as well.
I agree that an additional file to prove it's yours will lessen these. And well, Mr Basil doesn't have to look at the proof closely. As long as it slightly resembles the final artwork...? o;
I doubt most art thieves on Basil will go to the trouble of forging the proof. Even if they do, they'll be found out sooner or later, and can be reported.
Oh gosh, I seriously hate art theft.
The fact that people are dumb enough to attempt it is disgusting in itself, but the worst part is that the plagiarized material usually gets a flood of "likes" as well as sugarcoated comments even AFTER the poster is caught red-handed. Seriously, stuff like this makes me want to puke.

OT: Your method sounds reasonable to some degree, but keep in mind that there are bound to be many great artists who happen to misplace/lose their original works. And there aren't too many artists who take progress screenshots, either
The problem with uploading an original file is that anybody with the program can just save it/download it, alter it, and repost it as an original.
Screenshots are safer, but not many people take them.
It looks like there's no real way to prevent this. Luckily, it's not too hard to figure out
Yeah, I'm aware of that, that's why I was open to other suggestions as well because it's just too much of a hassle to lessen art theft. =x I really think the options of a report feature for screens or even just screen moderators would be more practical.

this really isn't necessary, because every art thief that comes onto basil ALWAYS get caught.... well not always but a great amount.

We have a lot of clever basilers to notice too. I've seen many caught, including some that get away with it for a long time but got caught at the end.

I really dislike it when people upload others' work but this really seems unlikely.

MrBasil has better things to do than download every single original-file (and some will be very large file sizes) and even have to purchase softwares to look at them.
A waste of time and money, in my opinion.

This art-theft doesn't that often too, so I don't think it's necessary to do anything. What's stolen gets removed, and that is enough for now.

mr.basil gets many art submissions daily, having him to check all the evidence will waste his time. And I saw somewhere in a thread where a mod said only mr.basil accepts the screens, no mods. So your idea will only cause more work for mr.basil.

Well obviously I know people can even forge the proof, there's no way to actually stop plagiarism completely. But it should help lessen it at the least if something was done about it.

A report button would work too, actually. Sounds better than my idea, but one problem with that is that proof isn't always found against an art thief. But it's not like my idea doesn't have flaws, these suggestions are still better than nothing.

Waste of time or not, I'm still sending a ticket. I take plagiarism very seriously and it just infuriates me whenever I see someone claiming someone else's work as their own, whether it's art-related or not.

You can even fake the thumbnail...

Just trace the pic beforehand and color like the original. Extra work, but it proves that you drew it.
Remove the original pic in the background... Screen shot!

I say this is unnecessary.
Stolen art sucks but there's no way to prove that it's really yours...
I have different styles and if you look at my deviantart gallery, you'd prolly think I stole some work.

I really don't see this happening in the future, mister basil doesn't really care.

I agree that it's a good idea. I'm getting rather tired of seeing stolen art myself. It's not fair to the original artist or the rest of the community that legit works hard on their artwork
