I guessing that stationary things that take up the majority of the box would be good for the green one, and mobile mobs would be good for the other one.
EDIT: I think Flamyheavens has them the wrong way around, and the purple one damages mobs on contact with the field, while green damages on contact with the monster

And green is everything inside takes damage
