Maples Story Project MapleStory Lore

Introduction
Back in 2008, IsaccGS began compiling a collection of MapleStory lore. (Lore is the backstory of a video game, in this case, the story of the Maple World and it's characters). Although it has been posted to BM before, the most recent version is here and it ends with Crimsonwood Keep. There has obviously been so much more added to MapleStory since then. (I stopped playing shortly after CWK, but I believe that was even before Big Bang.) This thread is dedicated to those who would like to learn more about MapleStory lore and gather it and compile it here, since (and correct me if I'm wrong) I believe IsaacGS has largely retired from MS.

Obviously, this is a daunting task; IsaacGS had an incredibly hard time with this as no one wiki has MapleStory's full lore, and the newer, post-Big Bang information isn't even easily available. We can use BBD's What Came When in GMS guide as a starting point. Since IsaacGS ended with Crimsonwood keep, we should start there. That was v.59, before Big Bang, Cygnus Knights, or even Pirates! Obviously there is much work to be done. The next place to start would be Phantom Forest, Singapore, the Pirate class, and Magatia. When Nexon introduced the Black Mage storyline, that's when they really tried to create a backstory for MapleStory.

Post with research and such, and credit will be given to anyone who provides substantial information.

"I know that a lot of you think this game doesn't have much of a story. To be honest, I felt the same way for a long time. The story always seemed to be there just under the surface, but it just wasn't being revealed. The thing that sort of prevents the story from being cohesive is how long it takes to move from one part of the quest to another. Between level requirements and finding elusive items, it can take quite some time, so when you move on to the second part of your quest, you've already forgotten what the NPC told you when you started the quest.

But, after reviewing the data, talking to many NPCs around the world, but particularly in Victoria, and checking back on quests, I've been able to piece together the storyline to a decent extent. Magatia is an unavailable area that plays a big part in Ossyria's backstory. Still, there's some things, mostly surrounding the Guild Quest, that can be nailed down. I've written it up into an easily readable form (instead of trying to interpret the 20 or so quests involved). Keep in mind this isn't everything I know; it's only the first portion. Continue checking this first post for updates to the story as I find them and/or type them up.

So, without further ado, here's what I have written so far (Again, this is all from the game itself, NOT fanfiction. The basic story remains the same.)""I know that a lot of you think this game doesn't have much of a story. To be honest, I felt the same way for a long time. Edit: I'm currently copy and pasting it in small sections, since BM doesn't let you copy and paste large amounts of text at one time to prevent spam
Edit: Apparently there is a limit on how long threads can be, so I'll be making a thread on Southperry sometime for those of you who want to continue this.

It'd be amazing if a writer out there in Maple took the time to write a full story lotr/eragon style. Maple's own canon is vast and interesting but not super detailed or connected. Also the recent developments have been kinda vague, jagged, and flat. Bet a good writer could weave something epic together.

This sounds something I'd do. Perhaps after I find the time.

Yeah... there's really no back story to a game like this ... they try too hard to make one and it is a total failure.
