Updates

Why I think this new update is landmark for MapleStory

Some of you may remember looking at the top 5 level 200s. Curryishott has left us, and older Maplers may remember Tiger and Suuuuuushi (sorry if I didn't spell those correctly). With this new update, the level cap is being raised to 250! People like Fangblade probably don't even play anymore. A lot of those first few level 200s that still did play, like Curry, were really nice people, and represented a better Maple community. They are relics of a time when Tiger and Sushi would lead Papi raids in the race to level 200.

With this new update, we officially step into a new age for Maple Story. Any remnants of nostalgia for the old MS will be gone. This has been happening for the long time, most visibly with the incrementally easier EXP curve and the torrent of new classes (which, don't get me wrong, I did enjoy to some degree).

This new update represents that change in the MapleStory community. It used to be a community where there were few worlds, each of which had channels filled with people. The four big servers (Scania, Bera, Broa, and Windia) had enough server load to lag crappy computers. FM ch1 had 3 times as many people as it has now; the economy was bigger and better. Instead of killing monsters and doing quests that would get you to level 70 in an hour, people did Kerning PQ, Ludi PQ, LMPQ, OPQ, among others.

None of that is true anymore. I can't find people in the Free Market to sell things to; no one does the lower level party quests anymore, and some of them don't even exist anymore; all my old PQ and grinding buddies have disappeared; items depreciate rapidly; there are too many servers now, with too few people. FangBlade, Korwyn, Novinha, Starlightzz, and LoOpEdd may/will disappear from the front page, and the memory of what MapleStory once was will disappear with them.

tl;dr The new update, especially the raised level cap, marks a departure from the old MapleStory.

Edit: Maybe this belongs in MapleStory 2, I wasn't sure
Edit: Sorry, I didn't realize there would be a separate ranking system for 200+. It doesn't change what I said; this departure started with Big Bang, and it will be complete with Unleashed.

Lol this was an unnecessarily nostalgic way of saying that this update is going to revolutionize MapleStory's environment.

side note: i love how people are talking about the separate rankings as if it's been confirmed. still waiting on confirmation..

@FrostLife: Maybe thats for KMS? I haven't seen GMS confirm it, as they haven't even release the update notes yet... Even if they do make 2 rankings, that would be cool

I'm not running around saying people have alot of time on their hands. If I'm on basil, then I'm killing time.

Also, guild PQ, something people felt nostalgia, is coming back, and the 200-250 exp curve is probably harder than 1-200 pre-Big Bang.

This kind of ruins the basis he used for his entire thread. +1

Hmm, nostalgia is a good and a bad thing, on the good side there's rememberings of past feelings that made you feel good, but on the other side nostalgia can REALLY get overrated to the level of actual reality.

Well, sometimes we must leave everything behind and move on, sometimes everyone knows is sort of hard, but one must always be looking forward to the future and not getting clouded by the past.

Anyway, i said that just if you feel better, and MS2 is unexistent (this far i think it is).
