How to prevent second hand smoking?

So I work as a cashier at my uncle's casino and well, there's tons of smokers. Point is, I don't smoke and I don't want to be inhaling smoke all day. I thought about wearing one of those doctor masks but I can't really smile and greet customers normally.
I was wondering what kinds of tips and tricks I can do to diminish the second hand smoke greatly.
Things I've read so far
-Drink lots of water
-Mint/ minty gums

As for the non-smoking area,
there are game machines in the back which are in a seperate room which are the non smoking area. As for the front (which is the main big room) is where all the transactions take place, aka the cashier. I can't avoid it. I guess I'll just deal with the mask[/quote]

second hand smoke is very toxic, if I were you I would find another job instead of working there but if you have no choice, wear a respirator with filter cartridges
also wear gloves since the money ur touching has cocaine on it most likely

To everyone who says wear a gas mask, how would you feel if your cashier was wearing a mask like that? Would you really want to go back to that place? Does the job pay well, because I'd find a better job if it's only paying a little more than what you could get at other places.

You have two options.

1. Stop being a pansy
2. Work somewhere else

That's like saying, "deal with the asbestos because there's no need for it to go away. Good luck with your untimely death and enjoy your cancer".

Either ask if you can move the register to a non-smoking area or stop being such a baby and deal with the second hand.

I agree with the fan idea.
Every other suggestion makes you seem like someone with no character, who's the product of helicopter parenting, the entitlement generation, etc.
But if you don't mind being perceived that way, go for it.

A few options imo:

1. better ventilation, like @polymerase said. If that's not an option, maybe set up a few heavy duty fans close by that would blow the smoke away from your direction.
2. like another guy said, move to a non-smoking zone.
3. ask management to move the games further away from your work-area. If your uncle owns the casino, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

Ask for proper ventilation.

It's an anti-depression tool. Everyone person who smokes or drinks has some form of depression.
Use pyschologly and calm their nerves.

Wow, I didn't realize some states still allowed smoking in public places. Gross.

I don't think water or mints are going to help with the long term health effects. Switch to the smoke-free areas for your job or quit. It's not worth the cancer.

Tell them to piss of, make sure you say 'please' though or else they may not want to come back to the casino, y'know you have to treat your customers with respect.

Talk to management about making the cash area a non-smoking zone then?
