If someone though you were gay, would that offend you?

I was at a party last night and at one point I was chilling on the couch with a few others. At some point I made a comment about how hot another one of the girls was and a guy who I've probably only know since beginning of June turned and said "oh I thought you were gay, man" I said "no, I'm not gay. But I act pretty gay, ha" and just laughed about it.
Later in the night one of my friends I've know for years was asking me why I didn't beat up the guy who called me gay. Like he was shocked that I'd let someone speak to me like that as he's know me to not let other things slide so easily. At the time I didn't think much of it and basically said again "outside of actually being gay and kissing dudes, I do some super gay stuff." Again laughing it off...

Only this morning am I thinking about it. Like if someone though you were gay, would that offend you? And do you think my friend thinks less of me now, he seemed straight up angry that someone thought I was gay.

Not at all. I wouldn't be surprised either since I check out girls all the time.

Nah. As long as they assume I'm the dominant one.
@ChildCrusade: Hahaa, my girl's been trying to get me to wear one for the longest time now. I like cardigans, but not as much as I thought I would.

Iunno, man, people are really shallow-minded. o_o
Hm, who knows. People in my school are quite open minded. I'm friends with the class reps for my grade, so they tried to get a spirit day where they would dress preppy in honor of me (lol). But it turned out great with people wearing cardigans and I have to say, best school spirit year.

I get really offended.. only because I've heard it 100 times in my life. My voice is really high pitched and all my friends are girls.. I don't mind at all it's just people judge me based on things I can't change. I laugh it off, but it buggs me plus I'm in highschool so people like to make rumours and talk crap about me so yeah :$$$ thank god the people that actually do judge me are either complete randoms/ people who like to just get drunk/ do weed/ have no future outlook on life/ and piss me off. I hate everybody.

Idk but around here, "gay" is an insult. Even the homosexuals around here use it as an insult lol. Anyways "gay" has been an insult since the 90s... not going to change

No, I wouldn't be offended. I'd actually flirt with them to scare them off if they're not into that sort of thing for luls.
Nah, doesn't really offend me, but I do tend to become a bit irritable as to why they'd think something like that in the first place.

Back when I was in high school, some people(mainly guys) had it in their heads that I was a homosexual.
Why?
Probably because of the way I carried myself. I speak very fluently, I apparently "dress out of the ordinary", well-groomed, etc etc. But, to me, it is very foolish & close-minded to think that a man is homosexual just because he knows how to act. I always received stares & glares while walking down the hallways or into the cafeteria because I dressed "fancy", so people foolishly automatically thought I was gay. Then the rumors began of me being gay. Typical highschool behaviour, eh?

I could provide a photo of me if anyone's curious as to see what I look like, though. Ahahahahaa
Oh shoot, I dress well in school too! Cardigans are a fav. But I haven't heard the word gay used to define me, so they might be hiding it >:o

Most people in this thread are just going to claim they wouldn't be offended at all.

I texted the guy and he thought I was gay because (umong other things) in the short time I've know him I've refrenced how much I like Ryan Renolds. Like last weekend when we saw Ted I said Ryan Renolds is the hottest man alive. And then a few days later we went to someone house and I chose to watch Defnitely Maybe instead of playing street hockey. And I was telling a story about him on two other occasions. So yea.
exactly, it's easy to say "oh i wouldn't be offended because there's nothing wrong with being gay go gays gay pride!". but in reality, there's a lot more associated with the word than just homosexuality.
yea I pretty much exclusively use the word like louis ck says here
and no matter how i try to explain myself to my other friends, they still wish i wouldn't
Well, being gay in our society is more than just liking guys instead of girls. Being heterosexual is a way for men to prove that they're manly, because what's more manly than liking women? Gays are known for being completely un-manly. It's almost like he was insulting your manhood. That's probably why your friend wondered why you weren't offended. I think that's also why it's so much more insulting to call a guy gay than a girl lesbian. Guys are much more insecure about their sexuality, because their manliness is at stake.
Yea everything youve said here is pretty much to be expected, except that at my school there are three gay guys who are out. They are all atheletes, bug dudes, not any kind of feminine stereotype. One guy was a transfer from being suspended at another school and within one semester he had beaten up almost all of those "tought guy" senior types.

Yes because it is used as an insult by society

My best friend's mom thought I was lesbian at first since I love to kiss/snuggle x.x it bugged me a lil at first since she doesn't seem to like lesbians but other than that I had no problem with it
You'd be pretty homophobic if you were offended by it.
The dude who was puzzled by me not being offended just isn't that guy. That's why I couldn't figure out what his deal with it was. He is super not racist homophobic and all the jazz. Just a straight up dude.

@TheDudeAbides: Lol I really don't know why. It probably has to do with the way gay people are looked at by society. I don't have anything against gay people

Well, I would be a bit offended because somebody judged me without actually knowing me.
But would I get mad over it? Nah it's not something to get mad about.

Your friends are just homophobes. If someone thought I was gay, it wouldn't offend me. Because being gay isn't bad?
