Brinkmanship at its finest

Hey guys, I have a question for you all. I have been contemplating quitting for awhile but recent events have caused me to just leave. My Ally ditched me after I said that i'd be out for about a week, and 20 members from my guild left after that. What I want to ask is, how does someone keep members in a guild? We didn't do anything special (allies did), and even when I planned a GPQ or another event, no one cared enough to go. Given, I don't have many friends in-guild as I'd like, cause, lets face it, they'd rather be elsewhere/have other loyalties to better guilds and I don't blame them. Hell, most of them are strangers I just add, no one knows each other, unless its about 6 people I could mention. Anywho, if you have any advice to this QQer, it'd be much apprecated.
I don't want to offend you, but maplers tend to judge one another by the color of their avatar.

I've made a dark skinned avatar once and all the hate i received on it was horrendous.

but from what I've experienced, as a guild leader, try to track you guildies down and talk to them a bit

From then on, they would probably track you down to talk to you, or talk in the guild chat
I never got any hate because of how my avatar looked. I'm liking the idea of tracking down people though.
