4th of July Dui Checkpoint

Not sure how many Chat Islanders on Basil are even old enough to drive, but this video needs to get as spread around as possible.

Sacrificing liberty for safety will always cost us both.

There are always loopholes and ways to bypass someone giving consent to searches, this really isn't new.

Also this definitely isn't universal, it varies state to state and country to country, in many places it's against the law to refuse a breathalyzer and/or search at DUI checkpoints.

@Kalemora lol he wasn't asking for anything? The driver knew exactly what he was doing, he wanted to raise the officers suspicions and instigate a response hence the entire point of him filming it. Obviously the officers are going to think something's up when he won't even comply with a simple request to roll down the window.

@TheTot Nobodies missing the point of the video, they just understand common sense that if you do something like this on purpose with the intention of aggravating an officer you're going to get a response, these rights-warriors are pathetic in my opinion.

Been through like 5 DUI checkpoints in the last 3 years. Half the time they just wave me through. The other half they request for my ID and ask if I had been drinking. I just comply because I don't want to make a hassle since they could bust me for having no front license plate and illegal fron tints ( damn california -____-)
You mocked him for making a point about the window. "SHOW ME WHERE IT SAYS I HAVE TO," you jested. But that IS the point, it really is. These cops got upset over NOTHING. HE didn't do anything wrong. He really, truly didn't have to roll down his window any further.
Of course he didn't have too. But I get it, I was a teenager once too. It's called being respectful man.
I really hate it when people pull arguments like that out. Do I not get to say that my life is good either? Since there are folks who live much better lives than I do?

While we are much more "free" than most countries, systemic oppression still exists in America, though it normally targets minority groups. Just because other places have problems does not mean we should ignore our own troubles and shrug them off.
I completely agree with you

@ZedsDead You said he was in the wrong. He had his camera rolling, so YES he was doing this to prove a point, but he did absolutely nothing unlawful or even rude. He was entirely within his rights.

You mocked him for making a point about the window. "SHOW ME WHERE IT SAYS I HAVE TO," you jested. But that IS the point, it really is. These cops got upset over NOTHING. HE didn't do anything wrong. He really, truly didn't have to roll down his window any further.

So many people are so eager to say "He should have just done it," but no one is quick to say "The officer should have just proceeded with his window as it was."

"You mind rolling you window down si--" "NO. SHOW ME WHERE IT SAYS I HAVE TO IN THE CONSTITUTION." It's called human decency..

The kid didn't really ask for anything. He complied with the law. The officers are the only ones to blame here. They knew they were overstepping boundaries too, as evidenced by the end of the video.
He was BAITING THEM. They were BOTH in the wrong. The difference is the cops were trying to do their job (albeity poorly) and that kid was looking to incite a conflict by being a rude smart ass.

For the record, I agree with you. I'm not one of the ones that's trying to argue America isn't free. I'm glad I live here, and not in some parts in the world where there's no such thing as free speech and free press. I also don't mean to imply this accurately represents all cops.

But I still think it should be spread, and I think its message should be made clear. I can't believe how many people are willing to surrender with, "if he had just rolled down his window..."

That's not the point.

Seriously, liberty in america does not exist. america is such a lie I feel that the "a" in the name does not require capitalization.
@TheTot: no i understand the point of the video, the officer did use his power to take the man's liberties away from him, but im just saying he just made it harder on himself

That kid's a smart ass tbh. Can't comply with even the simplest requests, of course the officer's going to think somethings up. Yeah, the officer may have overstepped his boundaries but the kid certainly got what he asked for.

@TheTot: again like i said, he was within all his rights, but really, ive gone through atleast 4 of these this week, nothing to this extent happened, they just asked where we were heading, if we were drinking, they just looked around and what im assuming, "smell" us for alcohol or drugs, or any immediate indications for that sort of thing, they didn't and we left safe and sound.
if he really just answered the question are you 21? they guy wouldve then asked, have you been drinking this evening, and he probably would let him leave in 2min,
honestly...if you really just follow what the officer says, it'll be over within 5min no problems...really, this guy is within his rights, although he was just making it harder on himself, so basically his fault, the officer did step out of line in the end though
all in all, if you haven't done anything wrong, or have nothing to hide, just do as they say and its done and over with
The point of this video ->

Your head ->

And no, the officer stepped out of line as soon as he refused to answer the person's question about being detained. It was unlawful. The person did not want to roll down his window and he did NOT HAVE TO. The officer used his authority to BULLY this person. It's NOT okay.
