Paradoxically, it's the fact that he's hacking to achieve something meaningless that's making us angry. Why go through the effort just for something that ultimately means nothing if not to anger every member of the community who has actually worked on making a beginner? You can connect this kind of thing to real life, though on a much larger scale. Everybody (for the most part) is striving for a living, so it angers people when others cheat them out of what they have to make their own livelihoods. And yet, in the end, none of it matters when we die, and that will inevitably happen to every single person. It's the fact that it matters to us while we're still alive that makes us angry, and as long as the beginner community exists, we will not allow someone to reach success illegitimately when everyone else has worked hard to get where we are.
