Anime- Shiki

I recently finished watching an amazing anime called Shiki. Anyone here ever watch/read it? Now to look for a new anime to fill it's void..

@ToForgive: It's not that Elfen Lied had bad gore per say its just that because of how it was handled it felt like a joke with less impact compared to Shiki which had horrifying gore in a fairly realistic sense.

Hmm I see. I had high hopes for Elfen Lied like it could match Shiki in the gore department. I'm still gonna watch it but I'll just go into it w/ no expectations. I thought the gore scenes in Shiki were very well done. Those scenes didn't felt like they were just there to be gory, but instead they heighten the emotional attachment to the characters and helped better understand them. At least, that's how it felt to me. Serial Experiments Lain is gonna be one I'll watch soon since you gave it a good recommendation.

Don't take Elfen Lied as seriously as you would have Shiki, in terms of characters there is way less development and the anime does a pretty poor job of illustrating what happens in the manga, what with the last third or so of the manga being not present. Its gore is also a joke by comparison to Shiki.

Some mystery i can think of from the top of my head that i personally enjoyed to go with your list:
Hyouka
Robotic;s Notes (by the same author as Stein;s gate, people say SG is better but i enjoyed RN more)
Baccano
Ergo Proxy
Ghost Hunt
Paranoia Agent

Some others that were good from other genres:
Bokurano (similar in feel to Shinsekai Yori)
Kara no Kyoukai
Mnemosyne (short ova series but has some nudity)
Serial Experiments Lain (one of my favorite psychological shows to date)
Witch Hunter Robin
I didn't feel that Shiki started slow. I was totally captivated from the get-go I guess lol. There wasn't a single character I didn't like; they all were interested and contributed to the plot. My personal favorites were Doctor Ozaki, Seishin, Megumi, and Natsuno.

...

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Here I was thinking there wasn't any other anime like Shiki left to watch lol. I'm also gonna check out Another and Elfen Lied since they are also darker anime.
I'm fairly patient when watching series, but Another legitimately made me doze off at several points at the beginning. However, if you can stick through it to the end, I think you will find it enjoyable as it picks up.

I'm pitching my vote again for Shinsekai Yori, hehe Out of all of the recs made (I've seen them all), it made the most lasting impression, even more than Shiki.

Yeah there were like 24 episodes. And I agree, there could have been more character development.

It's pretty good. About ~23 episodes iirc. It's a good idea, but I feel like there isn't enough character development.

@Uonatrik
I did watch Higurashi and it was amazing. I will check out Gankutsuou.

@BlissHD
I haven't watch Mirai Nikki yet, but it's definitely on my list.

@Eecohch
Shiki did give me a lot to think about throughout the course of the anime; I was always wondering whats gonna happen next. I never heard of Shinsekai Yori, but I'm gonna add it to my list ^^

@KaichouShion
Yeah the ending was sad T_T I Megumi was so cute I wish things would have worked out better for her D: You should totally watch it again ^^

@razormana
I do love a good mystery so I will add Tasogare Otome x Amnesia to the list too. I haven't watched too many mystery anime, but my favorite mystery games would have to be 999, hotel dusk, and danganronpa.

@pieshadowxx
Thanks I'll look into that series.

I did feel Shiki was slow to start with but after it sort of picked up I was okay with it and the ending seemed fine, but it was a bit darker than what I was used to xD

I agree with Mirai Nikki and Shinsekai Yori, really enjoyed both of those, and Shinsekai Yori was just ... an interesting ride all the way through. I rewatched Mirai Nikki recently and it was interesting seeing the other side of the story after knowing the ending, I feel like I should do the same with Shinsekai Yori.

If you enjoyed Shiki I think you would really enjoy Shinsekai Yori. Both leave you with a lot to think about.

Watched it last year, twas' pretty good. Mirai Nikki was my gateway anime for beginning the process of watching "darker" anime, so I recommend it if you haven't watched it yet.

I watched it a few years back when it was released. Loved it.
Although, I can't remember anything other than best friend dying or something, and the cute pink haired girl. I should go watch it again.
@Uonatrik I wouldn't say Shiki has a nice ending, not much is really resolved either.

IMO people think Shiki is bad because it has a slow start, but if they actually watched it rather then complaining they would know it is great.
As Uonatrik said, you want Horror/Mystery or Horror/Psychological things like Higuarashi, Umineko, Another and maybe even Tasogare Otome x Amnesia if you want a less horror more mystery show.
Yeah, resolved wouldn't really be a good word for it. I kinda meant "resolved" in a umineko sense, since you mentioned it. The mystery is "solved" but the "ending" is still kinda up for interpretation.

My friend watched it and told me a bit about it. Seems like a horror/mystery?

Some anime off the top of my head that seem kinda similar to it are Gankutsuou and Higurashi. Where it starts off with everything confusing and scary but ends with everything being resolved. As for Higurashi, I would recommend reading the VN. Gankutsuou is just a masterpiece, and one of my favorite anime. It's based on The Count of Monte Cristo.

Anyways, sorry I can't provide any discussion on Shiki itself.
