Girlfriend's Pregnancy Scare Story

I don't think I've panicked more in my entire life..

I'm in a long distance relationship dating a girl who lives in Alberta while I live in Ontario. We see each other every few months or so, the last time we saw each other was 3 months ago. Recently she's been feeling very fatigued and sleeping a lot during the day having to call in sick for work, she's been feeling nauseous and her iron levels have dropped. She then started complaining about stomach cramps.. She went to the doctor and they booked her for a blood/urine test to see what the problem was, and he also asked her if she was pregnant which she said there's no way because the last time she saw me was 3 months ago.

After she told me this I immediately did what anyone would do and went on Google. This is when I really started getting terrified because there were a whole lot of articles and forums on women who don't notice that they're pregnant even up until week 20. In rare cases some women don't even know they're pregnant til they give birth. So because it had only been 3 months I thought that maybe we had an accident and that she was pregnant but just didn't know it.

My girlfriend was always very adamant on being pro-life, and we have talked about kids and I do want them but not right now. We've only been together for 1.5 years and she's still in school, we haven't even talked about moving in with one another yet, so for her to have my child while 3 provinces away would be a very difficult situation.

I always used a condom anytime I had sex with her, but as we all know condoms are not 100%. If used correctly they are about 98% effective at preventing a pregnancy (which means you have a 1 in 50 chance of getting a girl pregnant every time you have sex if condoms are your only form of contraceptive.) My girlfriend also refuses to go on birth control and has always been pro-life so if she were to get pregnant I know that she would keep it.

Her appointment for blood work isn't until Saturday, so today she went and got a pregnancy test and thank the lord it came back negative. I was extremely relieved and it really opened my eyes to how easily your life can change if you're not careful. Heck, even if you are careful it can still happen.

Feel free to share your own pregnancy related stories!

EDIT: Can a mod please fix the title? Thanks lol

Well good luck with that. Make sure she'll take another test soon just in case. Also you may want to talk to her about the whole thing over, given you don't want kids RIGHT NOW, so you agree on what you would do if she would get pregnant. Pro-life is nice and dandy, but if the parents aren't ready or able to take care of the child in many cases you can hardly call that a good life to begin with, and it may be a great strain on your relationship. Especially given LDRs are incredibly exhausting/tiring/painful/stressful (been there, done that). Relationship (and your individual lives) comes first in that regard. Y'all can have kids anytime at a later point after all.

Does she not take birth control? Good luck with all that!! And I hope she'll figure out what caused her problems. Iron deficiency is no joke. All the best!

I was about to go have a drink in remembrance to your freedom.

If I don't know the girl is on bc, I plan B that every time. I pay for it, I don't care. I ain't having no kid and a 18 year hole in my wallet.
