English short story help/ ideas?

Hi I'm writing an essay about "What You pawn I will Redeem". And would like to gather more ideas/ thoughts of the story. I already have a bunch of notes taken down about the protagonists' struggle to find his identity, define his cultural differences, never giving up hope, compassion and more. If you have already read this, please give a bit of insight . For those who haven't and have a bit of time (takes under an hour to read), I personally do recommend you read it, I really like the style the author has written it in (Unlike Shakespeare which I don't like... the jumble of words can sometimes get pretty hard to understand). Just a few points would be nice and greatly appreciated, that way I can expand my own writing . Thanks in advance!
