Problem with spending money on Nx?

I don't get why some people have a problem with others spending real cash on NX. Isn't it equivalent to spending money buying PS3's and Xbox 360's and whatever new gaming console that comes out? I see absolutely difference bewtween the two things. People have easily spent over $1000 on Maplestory NX just like people have easily spent over $1000 on game systems and video games. It's a lot easier to spend more on the latter considering how much more expensive everything is these days...

Basically what I'm saying is why be ashamed of spending NX on this game? Why is it a problem when other people do? What is so wrong about spending NX on Maplestory? People don't get this treatment for having lots of games or consoles, and not even for buying downloadable content for video games (Like CoD map packs, Skyrim and Borderlands add-ons) so what makes that so different from buying NX?

@Constalations:
I have it the same way, my parents feel the need to buy new game systems so I have those but they're all collecting dust. Maple has lasted longer and has been more fun. But it does all depend on the person.

@SheepPB:
Agreed

@MeganCutie:
I like you

@frugua:
I agree, that money could be used to buy more instead of buying a card, unless of course the card is for someone else.
But you could also not hide it...

@MapleMerchants:
If you aren't going to be part of the discussion go away.

@punx: Wewt! I have a little brother that plays maple now. Whenever he buys nx, I would ask him to get some for me, he would give me the code and I would pay him back later in the weekend. I sometimes buy birthday cards if I really need nx though. rofl

@frugua: $2 is nothing if you have a stable source of money that is put aside only for nx. And if it really is someone's b-day, you can use that!
@frugua: My old plan on how to buy nx might do it then and since it's once every month, I would usually have time to think of a plan to see who's "birthday" it was on that month (And yes, I do buy them gifts...the nx is for my own use. )
Haha I ALWAYS buy a birthday card when I buy nx

o-o I know I've never been ashamed of it. If I like it why should I be ashamed of something I enjoy?
There needs to be more people like you.

imo i have been playing maple for about 4years now, and i havent quit yet but i bought my ps2(dont judge me this was 6years ago) and like a year after i just threw it in the back of my closet and still hasnt been moved, and i can buy new games all the time which is like buying nx yes i know not alot of people play it anymore but my point is that there is no diff because in the end of the day most of the games you buy equal to the amount of nx you buy then + the console itself is more, but it depends on what you like.

@Cinnabun:
I guess it all comes down to self-conscientiousness (why is this word spelled this way?).

@Rowa1998:
I agree with you, it is all based on what people think. But aren't both things essentially the same?

@squire7766:
True... but you're renting it for as long as you play the game or until it shuts down.
With game systems it's yours until it gets outdated or you're bored of it.

@MeMagicalPie:
Win?

@MrxRichard:
Yea you have a point there, but the way Maple is going now I don't really see it shutting down soon. Maple has survived for a very long time and will last longer then PS3's and Xbox's and Wii's for sure.
Once a new console comes out the others go into the closet to collect dust. Maple is being constantly renovated and updated.

@frugua:
Everyone in my life knows I play Maple, but can understand your embarrassment. I was like that at first.

@daringwaffle:
The difference in variety is huge. But then again you said "I guess if this one game entertains you for years its no difference" which is kinda a key thing. It really depends on the person.

@rocketnathan:
Go away.
@TwinTurbine: I mean its embarassing if i go buy nexon and my friends or classmate sees me
You can always do it in the computer despite not being able to gift it to anyone else (I haven't bought nx that way so yeah)

How I used to buy nx to avoid people saying stuff:

Buy a $2-3 Hallmark Card, Buy a $10-20 card. It's a few dollars more but I didn't mind. I would say it's one of my relative/cousin's birthday. It was once every month or so.

I just tell everyone at my school that I play Maplestory and they don't care.
Or they say "Yeah, I played and got to level 13. Then I quit."

not that i havent spent money on this game, but the difference is 1000$ towards an xbox will get you many games, this is ONE game.
60$ on maple is like, 1 item, for 1 char, in 1 game
60$ on xbox is a new game thats entertaining and new

I guess if this one game entertains you for years its no difference

the idea is that xbox give u more variety for ur money

Also, xbox/ps3 is whats cool these days. maple isnt considered cool. I wouldnt go around telling all my friends that i play maplestory, but i have no problem talking about CoD/halo etc.

you say that like you will never quit playing them but they are exactly the same eventually you will quit them so whats the diff.

Well i'm an NX spender.

But... there really is a HUGE difference between buying physical goods and virtual goods; especially when the virtual goods are never yours.

That's right, everything belongs to Nexon at the end of the day. It's like you're renting your stuff.

many people think that spending money on pixels is a waste (you can only get fun out of it, whereas with Xbox's and game consoles, they can be sold if u get bored of them) but they're also the same because if YOU think that buying nx is good, then buying is fine. for others, if THEY think that buying nx is wasteful, then they wont buy... it's what everything thinks *shrug*

@frugua:
This is true to an extent. Unless the cashier is someone you know I don't see much of a problem. Even if it is, I still don't see why it is.

@sirclapalot:
Nice post, I like all of your points. I see both as spending money on a video game to further the experience.
I also see it as a lot harder to spend as much NX as you would money on consoles.

@copox123:
$500 isn't much. That's almost equal to buying an Xbox 360 ($200) and 4 games ($60 each, 60*4=240. 240+200=480). And then you also have things like extra controllers, previous games that were bought, DLC's, etc.

@DjFunky:
That probably wont happen. Probable, but not really possible.

@Segumisama:
Thanks
I don't think I'd have any game systems if my parents were to be ok with my playing Maple. If I asked for just pure money on Christmas/B-Day's I wouldn't get it. And if I asked for a bunch of NX cards they'd laugh and say no. They think I'm too old for this game :

you're one of the smarter people.

Plus, you get so much enjoyment out of maple. It's not wasting money.

In essence you're right it's the same thing.
The fact is people have stigma over spending money on a game which you can play perfectly fine for free (well that's debatable)
With a ps3 game or other games you have to buy to play at all.
- So ppl who spend Nx are seen as ppl who spend money frivolously whilst ppl who buy other games r just buying entertainment.
They are practically the same thing though.

@rashoodyBM:
That's completely opinionated. The most fun I have ever had on a game has been PS1/SNES days. Then Maple, then the Pokemon series, then TF2 for PS3, and lastly modern gaming. I rarely play PS3 anymore, it just isn't as fun as old gaming used to be.

@growl1800:
I'd rather spend money on a pixelated 2D character. Modern gaming is crap and isn't worth the money.

@Lysasit:
The actually is a way to sell your characters, it involves a lot of trust but it's possible. You can make real cash off of Maplestory.

@Tenserai:
I see your point there. It is free to play, but I see spending money on Maple a lot more rewarding then on other games. Buying 2 25k NX cards is more rewarding then buy some $60 game.

Because Maplestory is a free game in the first place; some people see no logic in paying for a game that is free to start out with.
I can see logic in both sides, you go ahead and burn your cash. Screw dem haterz.

Because maplestory does not have a tangible value. Sure you can sell a ps3, its games, or an xbox. I don't think you can sell your henehoe character filled to the brim with nx clothes and effects.
