Wisdom teeth removed

Well, hello there, Basilers.

Like the title states, I'm getting all four of my wisdom teeth removed. On Monday. Yeah, all four. Has anyone gotten all four removed? If so, how was it like? Most people I know got like, only one or two removed in one session... I'm also gonna be asleep. I'm so scared of dying while I'm asleep LOL.

Also, any tips on what to eat, how to brush, reduce swelling, sleeping, etc? I don't want to look like a chipmunk once school starts again. :<

Thanks in advance!

I had all four of mine removed at once too. However, they were taken out from me through a surgery so I can't really advise you what to do during the procedure.

However, do not brush near the stitches. It would hurt a lot. Take your pain killers as prescribed by your dentist and you should be fine. Drink some Milo or other chocolate drinks after it to help replenish your red blood cells.

I got all four out a few weeks before I turned 18 I think (or 17... I can't even remember), but I was put under too, and it was super easy. I didn't say anything weird despite the anesthesia (which was my biggest worry, above the "terrible" recovery process). I went home, my gums bled like.. once. I kept frozen peas/carrots or ice on my jaw (both sides) at almost all times, ate soft foods (yogurt, applesauce... felt like I was feeding a baby 'cause of swelling). By the end of the second day of recovery, I was basically back to normal. I never threw up or felt extremely crappy or anything. It was super easy compared to other stories I heard. My mom was more nervous for me than I was for myself for the surgery.

So yeah, you hear a lot of bad stories, but there's also a lot of good ones. The younger you are, the easier (on average) the surgery and recovery will be. You're not even awake for any of the procedure, so it's no big deal. I remember trying to see how long I could stay awake with the anesthesia, but eventually I just said "screw it" and went to sleep :I

Also, when I woke up, I thought something was in my mouth... it was just my tongue. That was pretty weird
Had two taken out two month ago, as people have said. Stay on a liquid diet like soup for a min of a week. There should be very little pain after the pain reliever wear off.
Only thing you have to worry about is the dreaded dry socket, and to clean out the bottom socket.
If you get a dry socket, this is what it's going to be like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb4WcAXTa6o
Bleeding should stop within a few hours at most the next day.
Mine top and bottom sockets closed up within 3 weeks.
Good Luck

To be honest, you don't need it unless you are in pain. Most wisdom teeth start out looking impacted and from studies, such teeth usually straighten out. The UK has stopped the practice unless it's really needed.
Oh God, that looks incredibly painful. ;_; How exactly do you get a dry socket?

Also, thanks everyone for all the good luck-ness! I'm so scared >___<

@Above: I like the taste of my blood

Getting knocked out was the best part
Eating only jello for a few days and spitting out blood was the worst part

i got my top two removed a little more than a year ago, and it went pretty well! i wasnt asleep during it, i got it numbed :-D and trust me, its do-able without going to sleep! i wanted to be asleep during the procedure cause i wanted to have control over what i swallow, etc.. when i went i realized that wasnt too much of a problem though! my brother got all 4 removed and he was asleep for it, his went well but he was reaalllly drowsy when he woke up whereas i was able to be awake and watch tv and change my gauze regularly (which from my experience is a good idea) and it was sore for awhile but i waited it out, and my face was only poofy for a few days! everything will be fine, but in my opinion i say do it without going to sleep, its uncomfortable but it didnt really hurt from my experience, and i felt all brave afterwards lol x)

Honestly the worst part for me was when the freezing came out and I felt every second of it.. You should try and not make my mistake and forget to take a lot of pain killers! But honestly the surgery wasn't anything, I walked in sat down got hooked up in three seconds... dentists or w.e walked in my heart rate when insane! Blacked out and woke up in seemingly 2 seconds... soup for a week after that yayaya

Honestly don't worry.

I'm having all 4 removed too. To be honest, one of them has me a bit weary since removing it could weaken/fracture my jaw
Hopefully you don't have any complications like I do. Best of luck

I only had two and got both of em out at the same time. It's not that bad to be honest. Don't feel any pain. It just sucks being on liquid foods for a week or two.

I had all my wisdom tooth removed, but 2 at a time twice. Each time was done by a different dentist.

The first time, I was wide awake for the whole procedure, and the dentist jammed this giant needle down my mouth and tongue to make it numb. I couldn't feel the pain, but I could feel the scalpel slicing my gums and whatever drills and yanking that came afterwards </3 When the anesthesia wore off I was crouching beside the bathroom sink in pain and spitting blood. Not only there's a dull throbbing pain at the back of your mouth, my whole mouth was feeling it had spikes jammed into them. And I couldn't eat or sleep for the next 3-5 days. ._.

The second time, I went to a specialist. He gave me some laughing gas so I was put to sleep. There was still pain at the back of my mouth but I could eat the next day, thank goodness.

i had one removed by novacain omg it felt like somebody was screwing something in my gums (after the procedure)
i BARELY could have opened my mouth
(this was with my regular dentist)

i had the other 3 removed when i was put to sleep and i felt fine after a little soreness
SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN ONE WITH NOVECAIN
(this was a specialist)

What the hell, I had to got all four wisdom teeth removed awake, but with my mouth numbed. >.<
My dentist said not to drink from a straw for awhile. I mostly ate porridge and noodles when I got my teeth pulled out.

LOL I hope you get anesthesia so you wont remember. I only remember waking up seriously feeling high with a sore mouth and the taste of blood a gauge. Good luck though.

Well I have to get them extracted soon, but I have TMD (can't fully open my jaw), so that should be fun.

I don't remember how much I got taken out but I know my mouth was really swollen for weeks, I could only eat mushy food and it just felt really weird. For some reason I want to experience it again I don't think you can stop the swelling, lucky I had mine done during the long Christmas holidays so it was all good

The procedure only takes about 30 minutes for all four wisdom teeth. It really isn't that bad, even if you don't take your medication like I did. Also, before the surgery they will hand you a list of things to do and not to do.

@BagYourFace, it was anesthesia. Everything was blurry, fade, but I was totally aware of what was going on mentally. My body wasn't listening to me at all, I had to use a lot concentration to move my hands, and they would just drop back down after a few seconds. I was also vomiting the blood that got down my throat occasionally. Took several hours to regain full control, but was still pestered by a headache.

I've only gotten 2 removed, so I could still eat normal food on one side.

I was allowed the choice to either sleep through the process or stay awake. I chose to be put to sleep because I didn't want to be conscious throughout the process of them removing each tooth. I found it pretty amusing after waking up because the drugs were still in my system so I could barely sit upright, let alone walk.

For food, I'd suggest avoiding any crispy foods that crumble easily like chips, sourdough bread, etc. I actually survived off of Jell-O, saimin, and water until the wounds healed.

If you take the pain medications that they prescribe to you, it will lessen the pain you feel in your mouth. That includes during brushing. You'll spit out some blood (you WILL, there is no, might), but anything to keep your wounds from becoming infected.

The gauze will also be your friend throughout the following days after the surgery, so use it.

I had all four removed. I personally didn't think it was bad at all. The first few hours are a complete blank. When I actually gained consciousness, I was in my bed watching Sherlock Holmes
After that, it wasn't so bad. I ate mostly jello and soup, and just slept a lot. It was a little weird getting back to eating hard foods after about a week, but then it was all good.
I think people over-exaggerate quite a bit, but maybe I just got lucky and the pain wasn't as bad for me.
I didn't take any pain meds and it didn't really hurt at all. If anything, it just felt awkward to talk and eat.

I don't remember what I did to prevent infection and keep my mouth clean, though. I know I washed my mouth with salt water, but I can't remember how often.
And there was gauze and such for the first few days.
Yep.

EDIT: I forgot to say (though I implied) that I was asleep during the process; they didn't give me the option to stay awake.
Before they counted to four, I was totally asleep (I wanted to count past 10 to prove them I was stronger, but I failed, LOL). I apparently woke up and told everyone to "back off, I got this" and tried to walk out, but I fell face-first and my dad had to carry me to the car

All-in-all, it's not that bad, and makes for great stories later.

I removed all 4 at once. Post removal was the worse, the anesthetic is gonna make you feel like you are dying. As for the food, you are gonna be eating alot of liquid food. Also best way to reduce swelling and preventing infection, rinse your mouth with warm salt water regularly, prob every 2 hours.

FUNNY COINCIDENCE I had all 4 of mine removed this morning. The actually procedure is a breeze. Afterwards you'll feel great too cause the numbing of your job/mouth lasts about 45 minutes after. Once that wears off its hellish. I'm maxed out on the pain meds and its still a deep throbing coupled with the constant taste of blood.
