how do you eat these burgers

so yesterday i went to dennys and for the first time, i ordered a burger from a non-fast food restaurant. I had never tried ordering a burger at a restaurant because well, I never really felt like eating it. I mean i would go to restaurants where they had the 'gourmet burgers' (?) on their menu but its like... why would i get a burger when i can order some delicious steak? ?
so ya i tried something new cause it had avocados in it so i was like hey cool ill try the burger
but
to my surprise, the burger was different than what i usually encounter....
it was big.
like, height wise.
huh
and there was a stick in the middle
the waitress gave me some big knife it looked like a steak knife
what was i supposed to do with it/
i tried eating the burger with my hands but my mouth is too small. I really tried opening my mouth wide but the burger wouldnt fit! ! !
even when i tried squishing it down but that became a mess.
so then i tried using the knife and no that was just a mess the buns and ingredients were going everywhere
so i was like wtf what am i supposed to do
i ended up just taking out the buns and eating the meat and everything else. left out the buns cause they were soggy from the meat juice by that time.
wtf are all burgers you order in non-fast food restaurants always this big?
basil what should i have done
how was i supposed to eat that burger? ? ?

Use the knife to cut in half, then eat from the center outwards. Small bites might seem futile but over time they work.

@TheZigen but cutting it with the knife was a mess? like the whole burger was falling apart man
But you didn't get breakfast food(which is on the same tier as AppleBee's food) , you got a burger.

I laugh when they give me forks for burritos. I eat them mano to mano.

With burgers like that, I usually squash it down onto the plate to somewhat flatten it .

If you thought eating that burger was difficult, try eating a burrito from Chipolte. It's 10x harder to eat/fit than the burger.
I can eat a burrito from Chipotle without even getting my hands dirty, and no, I don't use utensils either.

The reason why some people order hamburgers instead of steak is because a decent hamburger is like 1/3 the cost of a decent steak, and sometimes just as good if the place knows what they're doing.

Anyways, to eat a taller hamburger, the easiest way is to just cut it in half and then start eating at one of the corners that you made.

*goes to diner*
*still orders burgers*
Yup that's pretty much me as well. There's even a restaurant near my place named Hot Dog Palace and the only thing I order there is burgers.

You use the knife to cut the burger in half and eat it from the ends of the cut halves instead of trying to get your mouth open far enough to ram it in horizontally like a quarter pounder.
Or you just cut it up and eat the whole thing like an open-faced steak sandwich.

That's pretty standard at Diners and places like Red Robin etc. The knife is if you want to cut it in half before you bite into it. The toothpick or whatever it was going down the middle was to hold the burger together. And you eat it like any other burger. It'll get pretty messy most of the time.
