I had a laptop with 4GB of Ram and it couldn't run Minecraft very well without lag. Even on it's lowest settings I would lag a little bit.
Minecraft runs only 1. something GB of RAM (unless you run a mod that increases the number of blocks in the memory pool or texture). It's video that's the problem.

@wassiem1998: Maple now takes up 700MB of RAM now (so a laptop with only 1GB of SHARED video and processing RAM) might crash. It takes forever for my netbooks to load Maple now, like about 1 hour, and they have 1 GB of shared RAM.

Also, your Graphics Card only has 512 of VRAM (so does my desktop), which was a huge obstacle for rendering chunks for Minecraft on my desktop.
The graphics card is also capable of accessing shared RAM between processor and graphics, and in your case, it's 2 GB, so the GC has access to a total of 2.5GB of RAM.

Meanwhile, my main laptop's graphic card has 2 GB of built in VRAM (Nvidia GeForce GT 740M) and uses a Haswell Corei7 4700QM CPU. It's built in graphics card are quite fine, with 1780MB of shared memory, and even better than my old graphics card on my desktop, though Intel's 4600 HD graphics don't matter with my Graphics Card running.

@peterisnoob:

again...that's the problem. You watched too much pron or something Paint doesn't take more than 10mb of memory homie

As I have said, if you want to game, your graphic card will be the limiting factor not your RAM. In order to determine whether or not the 9500 GT is "good enough" really depends on what games you planning on playing. If I were to make a general answer though, the 9500GT is an old card that isn't good for games.

@peterisnoob:
wait a sec so i can plug in more than 1 ram in my computer?
so i can get another 4gb and end ups with 8gb
or do i have to buy 8gb and put the 4gb in other computer or sell it or something like that?

@prestigechef
lol
u can play maple with way less than 1gb ram
6 yeares ago i used to play on my old computer

Gaming is not about the size of the ram, but the speed of the ram and vram. (anything DDR3 should run most things fine)
GPU and CPU both play an important role, but most importantly, above all else, it's about a stable internet connection.
None of this means anything if you can't keep the system cooled, computers don't like the heat.

Keep your cpu, gpu, and ram cool, and you should be able to run most things without lag.

@peterisnoob:
lmfao then maybe it was your internet? 4gb is more than enough for maple lol. You can run maple on 1gb of ram and surf the web at the same time!

GeForce 9500 GT? Man, that's old...I think it'd be okay for some games...but you'd most likely have to drop some settings to get a decent frame rate.
Everyone that posted before @wassiem1998: is completely wrong regarding ram. 4gb is more than enough for you to play games and even have a few tabs open of other things. Only upgrade if you feel the need to have 2 or more memory demanding programs open at the same time (ie Maplestory and League of Legends even though 4gb can still run these two at the same time, pretty well).

l0l. One time, i was editting this pic in paint. Took all 4gb i had : & made my comp slow af. its Reccomended you get more than 4gb. I now have 16gb it only costed ~$90 to get 4x4gb sticks @ 1600mhz anyway

My specs:
Intel Core duo E7500 2.93GHz
4gb ram
AMD Sapphire Radeon HD6670

I can play various games on max settings and still run a few things on background. I feel like I should upgrade my ram though.
well when i bought the computer
the guy said that 4GB ram is enough for games cuz u dont need that much ram to play games
he said that i should just get a good GPU
and as far as iv seen on steam most games have the recommended ram requirement at 3-4GB
EDIT :
what do u guys think would be the best game that i can play on normal settings?
My computer is ONLY running FireFox, and Skype as well as my background virus protection, and drivers, and its already using 2.75 GB of my 8GB of RAM. 4 is a bit low. Your GPU is ancient, it's not THAT good either. Depending on your resolution you'll probably play most mainstream games on low, with a mix of a few medium settings.
