Dismounting a Drive to Change the File System

So, I'm nearly at the stage where I can change my computer's file system to NTFS, however, when I tried to do so, cmd gave me a message saying that it had to dismount in order to convert. So I'm curious as to if this is a temporary dismount, and will mount itself back without the Windows XP Install Disk or anything else. Thanks.

@WhoIsDead: When you dismount a drive, I am pretty sure that you do not lose any of the information on it (if that is what you are wondering about).

Yes. It came with this system, no idea why, probably because it's a Bootcamp partition.
