That's a good question.
If it's a $10CAD card then it's only worth about $7.80US so it depends on whether the redemption program that lets you exchange gift cards for NX takes that into consideration.
If they do, you'll only get $7.80 worth of NX.

I just use steam when i need to charge only 5 dollars.

There isn't any sites to purchase only 5k that I know of. Sites sell NX cards and they don't have 5$ cards.
There may be some sketchy site that has 5k left on a card that they sell, but you'll have to take a risk with those, as someone else has charged nx off of the card previously.
u can buy 5k credit on the website not pre paid if thts wat u wanted but thts the only way or if someone buys 10$ and gives u half
