Except ANN simply aggregates their news from other reliable sources, they aren't the only place for credible information.

@Wordolio Pre-Production is basically what it sounds like. It covers everything all the way up until the actual production starts. So unfortunately it doesn't give us an idea of how long before they're done, because it could mean they're barely getting started with blocking out the scenes in the episodes. Or it could mean they're just doing the finishing touches on the last things they need before they start production on the first episodes. Or anything in between. It doesn't count as "Production" until they've got everything set up and they're actually recording the voice acting and what not. Post-Production would be going through the takes, picking the best ones, synching the sound and video, cutting out scenes marked to be cut out, adding in sound effects, making sure there's no sound distortion etc. Basically the things that aren't done during production itself.
To add some, pre-production can also mean as the "planning" or "brainstorming" process. So in short, if a series is currently in pre-production, it is not yet or perhaps nowhere near the process of being filmed or animated.

Granted this is just based on what I learned for motion picture production doing sound recording. It may be slightly different for animation, but the process should be basically the same.

@traderweak 1) The land is flat, but the planet itself is still round, there's only so far they can see. And most of those 100 years has been focused on staying behind the safety of the walls. They never had to worry about fighting the titans until the point at the beginning of the anime/manga.
1.1) They meant came from the forest as in, the first point they saw it was as it was coming out of the trees, not that the origin of the titans is within the forest itself. They haven't made it past that forest due to the danger. Every time they send a squad outside the walls, they suffer heavy casualties. And an open empty plain is actually more dangerous for them than a forest with tall trees since they need something to latch onto to maneuver with their 3dmg gear. Burning the forest just to see past it would make no sense.

2) It's been said several times, but the answer to this is actually coming up. You either have to read the manga, or wait for the new season to start airing. It's literally the next part they cover in the story.
2.1) Even the small titans are as tall as houses, so it would take a ton of effort and manpower to build a hole large enough to trap just one small titan, let alone multiple ones. It wouldn't be worth the effort.

3) Because it's been 100 years of only a small group actually fighting the titans with little results. It was only recently that they learned about the weakness on the back of their necks. And until now, they had been safe behind the walls, so they didn't think there was a reason to build an escape route. Complacency.

4) Actually, lots of people mastered how to use maneuver gear, the problem is the only ones that mastered it were the survey corps. The ones that actually go outside of the walls and fight. So a lot of their members died after learning how. The other groups stayed safe within the walls and never really had to use their skills. Eren's class was not the first ones to learn it though, just the first since the fall of the outermost wall. They didn't feel it was necessary to have a huge army of soldiers though because the wall had been holding for a century.
There's a huge spoiler about it on the last few seconds (this is after the credits) of the anime's last episode. But seriously, I suggest that you read the manga.

Okay back to the main topic:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-feature/2014/08/05-1/feature-attack-on-titan-qa-panel-at-animagic-in-bonn-germany this interview from August 2014 confirmed that it is currently in pre-production. So it's safe to say that they're not even in the production process yet.
what exactly is pre-production anyways? I know for english dubs they have to share eren's voice actor with SAO for kirito, but other than that not exactly sure what pre-production is? so they're just sitting there thinking about producing it? pretty much any work you do on or around the new season would count as production, wouldn't it? im so confuzzled.

2) Is this part special? I mean the explanation about where they find the rock exclusive to manga?

1) Sorry, I don't get you answer. Not from my question.
1.1) But as you say they get too much of casualties, thus they would never go out "hunt" giant right? Meaning the forest is useless to them(as of now). Also, what I mean burning the forest is they got more view(since the land is flat plain), thus they could install more trap and when giant came, they could see from far and escape after installing the trap.

2) Is this part special? I mean the explanation about where they find the rock exclusive to manga?
2.2) In the anime, they said they barely catch the live giant for experiment, so if they could trap giant, the could test more experiments on them.

3) Hmm, make sense.

4) Okay, I get it.
You have to read the manga to get your answers. The manga is FAR FAR ahead than the anime simply because the anime is still being produced.

anyone wanna story craft with me? Spoiler w.e
So they key to Eren's basement held a clue to the transformation, they never attempted to go because the town was overrun by giants? The house was destroyed?
I don't understand why they went to scout the outside when they don't even have control of the outer walls.
Actually can someone shred some light? So far, by the anime I only see on kingdom, are there any other kingdom out there?

1) if their land is so flat, how come they cannot see where the small giant come from? Even though it has already been 100 years?
1.1) Also, I remember seeing an episode telling that the giant came from the Giant Tree forest but why they don't want to burn the forest despite they can went as far as the innest of this forest? If they burn day by day, 100 years would be more than enough.

2) Where do they get all the rocks to build the wall? At the height of Super Big Giant with the length of whole kingdom? Their land is super flat, does not have mountain or rocky area.
2.1) If they dig the ground for the rock, how come they don't want to make a super big hole to trap the Small Giant?

3) After 100 years of surviving the small Giant, why they don't learn smarter by make another escape route(say underground tunnel)?
*I know that this might reveal of Levi's arc AKA side story season of 12 episodes BUT it does not show in main story.

4) How come after 100 years, only a small group of less than 10 people able to master Maneuver? The whole kingdom really only rely on them with this mere number of Elites?
1) No one has really been able to venture far enough from the wall. Though the Scouting Legion has had expeditions even before, the insane amount of casualties that they get would make exploring difficult. Add to that ever since wall Maria was breached, they turned their focus to resealing and reclaiming the wall so I guess further explorations outside would be put on hold.
1.1) Burning the forests wouldn't be a good idea imo. I mean it did have its uses like when they tried to capture the female titan. Also, take note that forests can be an advantage for 3DMG users.
2) Read the manga. You'll find your answers there
2.1) Why trap the small giants when they could just kill them?
3) Escape to where then? So far, it's been told in the story that the walls are the only place where they're safe from the titans. Chances are the rest of the world's littered with them. Also, you should consider the fact that politics in SnK is quite corrupt. The nobles would rather spend their cash gambling than to build an underground tunnel or whatever.
4) Maybe because they were quite confident that the walls would last longer than 100 years so they never really took training and whatsoever seriously. (if you remember the first few episodes, it was shown that even the Garrison weren't even considering a titan breach till it was too late)

Just my insights. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

The thing is, why WOULDN'T they have a season 2? SNK is one of the most popular series at the moment. Personally, I'm not much of a fan but I understand why people like it. I would be shocked if they did not continue it.

@Wordolio: If you like the universe sure; AOT No Regrets is decent apparently if you love Levi [OR watch the upcoming OVA adaptation. AOT The Fall is like a prequel to the series and explores early universe of AOT. Chibi High looks stupid so don't bother.
Watch it if you like the AOT universe/or have nothing else to do

I remember a friend said season 2 was in production and linked me to a silly blogger website.
I think it's almost certain that AOT will get a second season (given its ridiculous hyper and multiple spinoffs [Levi OVA, AOT No Regrets, AOT Chibi High etc]). Right now they're gonna milk fanboys with the two compilation films being released (>which is in production&lt
It's a good guess that after their respective releases Season 2 will air (I have heard that season 2 is in pre-production)
Thank you for the informative response. It's not every day somebody on basil is actually decent. Also, is it worth watching the shorts and stuff for AOT?
