WorkOfArts Art Advice 8

Hey guys! I love giving art advice or critique. I can only give advice and critique to the best of my knowledge and ability, though. I've never taken an art class or had any type of formal training, so things I say might be different from what you may have been taught.

If you want critique, feel free to post below or send me a PM!

Always Draw Hands

Sorry kids, but the way you draw hands does not work. Hands inside sleeves don't work. Hands covered by hair or other objects don't work. Hands behind the back don't work. I see a lot of people forcing poses that avoids hands. Or poses that let you draw easy hands (such as holding an object or fists with the back of the hand facing the viewer).

If you are capable of drawing hands well, then go for it, you do what you wanna do. However, if you continuously have trouble drawing hands, don't try to make up for it by hiding them. Draw hands so you can practice them. Avoiding hands is painfully obvious. When a pose is meant to have visible hands, and they're not visible, everyone knows you did that so you can avoid hands.

Disclaimer: There are many poses and situations where hands would not be visible. If the pose/action you have in mind does not show hands, then obviously don't draw them.
I hate that female pose with the girls hands behind her back and giving us a shy look. All the attention is on her breasts. </3
Oh god I hate that too. Especially since most of the people who do that don't know how to draw breasts, and think that stretched breasts = large and voluptuous breasts that seep out of the clothing, with a perfectly round balloon style perkiness.

Also it's such a generic anime pose that's overused to death.

Thank you for this one! I haven't read any of your advice threads, I usually just skim since I haven't gotten around to completely reading them yet but this one in particular caught my attention and made me happy. I am terrible at drawing hands! I'll definitely refer to this next time i'm drawing something that needs them
