Video

@dabronxenigma wanted some tips on how to Hell Gollux as a Buccaneer, so I came to deliver with a video.

I'll use this space to clarify a few things and answer some questions that I think will popup. But if you do have more questions feel free to leave a comment and I'll try to answer them all. Wall of text incoming~

Since Buccaneers are a VERY well designed class, our main 1v1 skill can't actually reach Gollux during the eye stage from a safe distance. Safe distance as in, the safe spot to the far left/right or slightly away from the range of his reverse bomb attack (on top of the portal). To play around this while soloing we would either have to spam our laser which has a very long delay or do what I do in the video. Gollux's reverse bomb attack has a cooldown of roughly 20 seconds. In between that time frame you can freely attack in melee range but you also have to worry about the minions that spawn as well. The minions typically reach Gollux's face in 10-15 seconds after they spawn. Clearing the minions and not getting a single counter on my head during the eye stage is very important for me since I do not have enough damage to kill the forehead otherwise. I need the brief break before the forehead to rebuff myself.

Some other tips:
- Use the Aran character card for the lifesteal (The lifesteal and our passive skill perseverance should keep you pretty healthy with the potion lock in place)
- Jump back and forth while you're hitting the eyes (This is to juggle Gollux's aggro from left to right constantly so he attacks less frequently)
- If you get hit by the reverse bomb attack and you have no minion counters on your head, you can exit the map briefly to save yourself
- Try to clear the minions right after Gollux uses an attack (That is usually the safest time to go down and clear)
- You need roughly 25m per line on octopunch to safely kill the forehead in time with someone killing the minions for you

Some people might be wondering how or why I'm poisoned throughout most of the fight. How I got myself poisoned is due to a 'potion' that you can farm during Russellon's questline in Magatia. To farm them Russellon will ask you to take these pills from his desk during some point in the questline. Instead of handing it over to him and finishing the quest, take the pills and stack them up in the storage 1 at a time (they don't stack otherwise). The pills have a chance of poisoning you for 5 minutes. Why I poison myself is again because Buccaneers or in this case explorer pirates are VERY well designed. We have a skill called pirate's revenge that gives us a damage boost but the catch is, you have to get hit by a monster for it to have a chance of activating. With every boss that matters killing you in 1 hit, its not very effective, therefore to play around it we have to be a bit more...creative. Poison does in fact activate pirate's revenge and can keep it activated most of the time.

I'll be honest here, I think I got pretty lucky during this run. If you watched the video you might have noticed how I almost died a few times, like when I got hit by the reverse bomb attack or got knocked away because stance didn't activate. Sadly due to the limitations of my class I'd say I have a 50% chance of soloing Gollux without dying. I usually bring someone to help me clear away the minions for this reason. Aside from having only 98% stance when energy is charged and 49% stance when uncharged, if I'm down on the bottom platform clearing minions and Gollux decides to use his blue explosion attack, I have literally no time to dodge if I'm away from the portal. In other words, pray to the RNG gods.

@Rejigigas I got their names from both the constellation and Bakemonogatari. I first learned about the summer triangle from class and Bakemonogatari inspired me to use it even more. By the way it was actually Bakemonogatari's ending theme not opening theme.

did you get your pet names from the Bakemonogatari OP or was it just the constellations?

Very impressive stuff. I doubt I'd be able to solo this boss if I had the limitations of a buccaneer.

That's quite a lot of juggling risks.

@oOpoleyOo The initial cap is Faster (2). You can break this cap with a few things like green mpe potion, Beast Tamer's gold card, Blaze Wizard's burning conduit, and swiftness/destruction/decay runes. The real hard cap after breaking the initial cap is Faster (0). I'm not sure about other classes but, after testing it on my Buccaneer with every speed party buff I could think of, I couldn't get past Faster (0). I didn't notice any differences after stacking pretty much every speed buff on myself. If you really can go past Faster (0), then the difference in speed is so minimal that I wouldn't even bother with it.
@oOpoleyOo I already reach max attack speed with booster, real speed infusion, and a mpe potion. But you're right I could have used a rune to increase my damage a bit.
thought it went faster than 0 with green mpe (though getting 1 att speed at -1 gives u like 5% att speed boost whereas 1 att speed at 3 att speed is like 30-40% faster)

I'm pretty surprised to see some old faces around here. Thanks a lot for the praise, especially coming from a Buccaneer that I looked up to. By the way I've always wanted to say that you have an awesome outfit.

@iEvanMaster That is pretty neat. I don't think I'll try and practice dodging it though, the attack connecting before the animation even finishes is annoying enough to look out for and deal with.

What is the poison trick may i ask?
Blue explosion: A 1 hit KO attack that happens before the animation even ends. Although you can only get hit by it on the bottom platform.
Just a small nitpick, that may be helpful for people's gollux runs in the future;

I've noticed that Gollux's lightning 1hko is not exactly a 100% 1hko when you're on the bottom.

Rather, it's actually dependent on whether or not you're touching the ground on the bottom. It's possible to dodge by simply jumping, and I've done it a few times... however the problem is that you have to time it extremely well, because the stupid attack actually connects before the animation is finished, requiring you to have godlike reflexes to dodge consistently.

Other than that, excellent solo.

Props to whoever found out that poison trick, just goes to show one of the many ways you can find loopholes in this game.

@ShiraokaJinja Yes Gollux does indeed do %HP damage like most end game bosses.
Here is a list of what each attack does:
Breath attack: Deals 50% of your HP and binds you for a bit.
Breathing in attack: The initial seduce hit doesn't actually deal damage but, if you reach the face while seduced its a guaranteed 1 hit KO even with a skill like Heaven's Door on.
The Hand: Plain and simple 1 hit KO if it lands on you.
Reverse bomb attack: Makes your movement keys opposite of what they normally are. Upon detonating it deals 99% of your HP and stuns you for a bit.
Orange explosion: Knocks you back and deals 33% of your HP.
Blue explosion: A 1 hit KO attack that happens before the animation even ends. Although you can only get hit by it on the bottom platform.
Shock wave geyser: Deals 50% of your HP.
Minions: If the minions reach Gollux's face you get a counter on your head. The counter makes it so that you can't leave the map through the portal. Upon accumulating 5 counters, you get 1 hit KOed.

@PlayThatMelody The poison is indeed a very nice little trick. But I don't take credit for it. I forgot who I learned it from on the pirate forums, it might have even been from you?
