Survivability and Party Usefulness
I'm looking for a class that is useful in parties and can take a hit. Any recommendations?
I was thinking of dual blades, but is it true they die easily? How is their usefulness in parties?

Shadowers are pretty much up there with dbs. We have 1/1 Defense with MG so it only brings us to 50% and a ton of avoid. Haven't died to anything but 1shots for the past few months.
+ Smokescreen.
BaMs, your party will love ya

I too would like to know this

What is Cannoneers 1/1 defense?
The one thing that urks me about BaMs (involving survivability) is that we have no 1/1 defense, unlike Paladins, Cannoneers, etc.
+1 for BaMs, yes they can get pretty repetitive, but at least each job advancement gives you something new to play with, (dark chains, body boost, twister spin, and eventually BKB) as he said before, we have 3 party buffs, but also a nice (tho honestly way too long cooldown) shield thats very useful.
As far as tanking, we have drain, which heals for 10% of your base hp (670 something for my 24k with conversion, but 3-6 hits with finishing/bkb/finisher adds up quick).. which is annoying, but is usually enough to make hp pots a rarity, until you start getting to higher level bosses, Advanced Blue Aura, reduced dmg done to us as well as giving us almost always 9999 magic def and somewhere around 5k-max wep def, Conversion, which doubles our hp and makes us go from rather squishy to being able to survive most hits.
@xbladewingx: Cannoneers are decent at weapon defense and hp but not too well (they're tougher than other pirates from what I seen).
@xbladewingx: I haven't looked at dual blades since this patch hit, but before, my friend could go into Horned Tail and take very few hits, if any at all. I also know a dual blade who went afk when they had a 100% avoidibility rate in LHC. He went and sat down in a chair and went to eat dinner with his family and came back 2 hours later, not being hit a single time.
@maplerjoe
I didn't think cannoneers had good survivability?

Aside from Paladins, Kannas, and Bishops, what other classes are sought after in parties? I will think about the BaM.[/quote]
Other Class that can be a support and take hit well could be Dark Knights (Hyper body and Iron defense)and Cannoneer (Mega Monkey Magic gives all stat 30 or 60) is what i can think of.
Also don't be surprise if you get damage hungry with Battle Mage at around level 90+ They can also get repetitive with their blow skill.

@cherrytigers does the %avoid apply to bossing?
Dual blades die easily...? Since when. They can't even be touched with their 90% avoidibility and when they're hit, they have a passive that recovers HP.
Dual blades are known as the "selfish job." They have no party abilities. In fact, their haste is even called "self haste."
Battle Mage
Tankiest mage on Maplestory (I believe).
They have 3 party buff (Dark,Yellow, Blue Aura) [not counting Maple Warrior]
(I am Biased but Battle Mage can be a supportive or offensive class)
Paladin is a better option like stated above me.
Dual blades have no party skills except MW
Paladins have CO, threaten and smite and they are a class built for survivability
